26 January 2012
Grove Menzieshill Hockey Club have announced the appointment of Andrew Gillespie to the role of Club Development Co-ordinator.
The newly-created position, which is part-funded by Sportsmatch, will enable the club to develop and strengthen links with local schools and provide young players with more opportunities to play and enjoy hockey.
Over the next year Andrew will oversee the youth hockey development programme by leading hockey sessions in primary and secondary schools with a view to increasing participation of hockey throughout Dundee.
Andrew currently plays for Grove Menzieshill men's 2nd XI, having previously played for Madras, Heriot-Watt University, Grange and Inverleith. His coaching experience extends to Active Schools Fife, Sport Tayside & Fife, St Andrews University and Abertay University, whom he continues to coach.
Club President, Linsey Thomson, commented:
"Grove Menzieshill Hockey Club is looking forward to working closely with Andrew over the next 12 months. We are grateful for the support provided by Sportsmatch which has allowed us to develop hockey further within Primary and Secondary schools in the city. Andrew has demonstrated his enthusiasm for the role and we are confident that hockey within Dundee will benefit".
