Uddingston Hockey Club further strengthens key partnerships

Signing ceremony between Uddingston and Politeknik

Last weekend Uddingston Hockey Club welcomed a delegation from Majlis Sukan Politeknik, Malaysia, for a formal signing ceremony of a collaboration agreement between both parties.

This agreement is the culmination of the relationship that has been built up over the past three years, with the Polytechnic being formally recognised, to allow sharing of knowledge and players with a key objective of developing the relationship further in the years ahead.

Three years ago the club welcomed its first Malaysian players and since then both parties have seen the benefits of players coming to Uddingston to develop not only their hockey skills but also their English speaking skills and life skills from living in a different country.

Now that the agreement is in place Uddingston has also agreed that the club will send its Under 16 boys squad on a tour of Malaysia for a week in October supported by the Polytechnic. Uddingston will also be starting discussions about male and female senior players visiting Malaysia in January 2018 to develop their hockey skills and cultural understanding.

Club President Allan McGill commented, “We see this as a long-term project and investment that will improve the quality of our playing sides and give our members fantastic opportunities to learn both from Malaysian players travelling to Uddingston and our players travelling to Malaysia to gain new experiences”.

Polytechnic Director of Professional Excellence Mohamad Amin bin Hamat commented, “This is truly a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn at such a forward-thinking club as Uddingston, while also giving us the chance to see first-hand how the club runs its various programmes and develops its players across all levels”.
