U14 Boys Nottsport Inter District

 

Nott Sport U14 Inter Districts took place on Saturday at Glasgow National Hockey Centre. The teams arrived for an early start in the sunshine, the first game contested between East and West.

East opened the scoring with a through ball to Matthew Hughson, he slotted a reverse strike passed the West Keeper, the only goal of the first half. West came out fighting after the half, a penalty corner converted by Lewis Angus brought the game to one a piece. However East showed great finishing strength converting two late goals to take the points.

Midlands first showing was against North. The scoring was opened in the second minute, over the course of the game Midland scored 7 field goals and converted one from a penalty corner.

Highland took on East in their first game of the day. East looked strong and opened scoring in the second minute with a penalty corner conversion from Henry Hodgson. East continued the pressure, increasing their lead. Highlands keeper pulling of some fantastic saves, however East finished the game with an eight goal advantage.

West and North faced off against each other, in the third minute Lewis Angus opened the scoring for West. Jay Berry added Wests second from the spot making it 2 nil to West before the half. West converted their third goal from a penalty corner to see Angus earning a brace. In the final minute West sealed the points with a fourth goal, Luca Gardiner getting the honours.

 

Midland showed a dominant performance against highland with a 9-0 result in Midlands favour, Luke Sangster earning a brace whilst the rest of the goals came as singles through the team.

North scored their first goal of the tournament against East, however it was East that took the points in the end. A brace for Nicholas Temperley and singles for Dunlap, Crawford, Hodgson, Hughson and Pearson. Final score North 1 East 7.

West and Highland faced each other in the afternoon sunshine, West taking the match by 4 goals to nil, Jamie Green earning a brace from the match.

The fight for top of the table came from East and Midland, both teams having won all their previous matches. Both teams playing some great attacking hockey but both keepers and defence finding the strength to battle the ball away from goal. The match came down to a singular penalty stroke, Fraser Allan Calmly stepping up to the spot and slotting it past keeper Lamb.

North and highland faced off at the bottom end of the pool, both teams looking for their first win of the day. North took the first opportunity through Calum Bradford. They then extended their lead a few minutes later when captain Louis Roddy slotted the ball past the keeper. In the first minute of the second half, highland scored their first goal of the tournament, Calum Douglas scoring. In the closing minutes North converted a penalty corner which sealed the three points for the North side.

 

The final match of the day determined the placings of 1,2 and 3. Midland looking for a clean sweep of victories for the day. It took a penalty corner in the last minute of the first half to break the deadlock. Midland sneaking the lead through Fraser Allan. Midland took their lead to two goals in the 23rd minute, Lewis McGregor with the final touch. Midland wrapped up the victory when Connor Champman slotting home the third.
