Final stages for GB EDP in Belgium

Scotland’s Cameron Golden and Charlotte Watson have been amongst the goals for GB EDP as both the men’s and women’s sides compete over in Belgium.

The GB Men’s EDP will go into the final of their Six Nations tournament full of confidence having rounded off the group stages with two impressive wins.

Having already beaten hosts Belgium and India the squad took that momentum into their fixture against The Netherlands, coming out 3-2 winners having trailed at half-time and showing plenty of character and determination.

All three British goals came from corners, with Scotland’s Cameron Golden bagging himself two goals while Matt Ramshaw slammed home the other.

Ramshaw was then on target as GB demolished Ireland 6-1 in their final game to secure their place in the final.

The team tried out some new tactics in this game and they certainly seemed to pay off as Zach Wallace, Nick Park and Tim Nurse all joined Ramshaw on the scoresheet, with Durham University’s Jack Waller scoring two of his own.

Head coach Hannah MacLeod believes the GB Women’s EDP team have learned many valuable lessons at their Six Nations tournament after two tough games to finish the pool stages.

The team started their campaign with victory over Belgium before narrowly falling short to India. They then came up against a tough Dutch team in their third game and despite showing plenty of character ultimately lost 7-2.

GB trailed 3-1 at half-time after their opponents burst out of the blocks but scored the game’s most spectacular goal through Lucy Millington, who beat three defenders before dummying and nutmegging the goalkeeper.

They showed some great potential in the third quarter, scoring a second goal as a diving Emma Trunks superbly deflected a corner off the post and into the net.

However their opponents proved too strong and added to their tally in the final quarter.

The team then showed remarkable resilience the next day to come back from that result – as well as having three players ruled out due to injury – to draw 2-2 with Ireland.

Erica Sanders converted yet another corner to score her third goal of the tournament and ensure the sides went in level at half-time.

With two minutes to go GB trailed by a goal but up stepped Holly Munro to slap another corner past the Irish ‘keeper and secure a hard fought draw.

The GB Women’s EDP ended the group stages of their Six Nations campaign on a high with a gritty win over Canada, ensuring silverware is still very much a possibility.

A goalless first half burst into life early in the second as Erica Sanders scored yet again to give Great Britain the lead.

However Canada hit back and equalised shortly after but they weren’t level for long as Hannah MacLeod’s side responded almost immediately, with Charlotte Watson deflecting the ball past the opposition ‘keeper at the back post after a superb team move.

That ensures that the team will be battling for a bronze medal later today, something which MacLeod thinks will be key to their development.
