High scoring Sunday in National League 1

Edinburgh University and Clydesdale Western are neck-and-neck on 28 points at the top of Women`s National League 1, and the two sides cannot even be separated on goal difference.

The Edinburgh students recovered their composure after their single goal defeat at the hands of Clydesdale Western with a comfortable 3-0 victory over capital neighbours Watsonians.

Watsonians coach Keith Smith admitted that his side were not at the races in the first half and went two behind to penalty corner goals from Laura Swanson and Zara Malseed. It might have been more but for a series of saves by keeper Lucy Camlin.

Watsonians took the game to the champions in the second half but failed to find the net. But it was the students who added a third in the closing minutes through Ella Watt. The result leaves Watsonians in fifth place in the table.

Western showed absolutely no mercy to Glasgow University with a 10-0 victory, there were two goals each for Heather Howie, Millie Brown and Lexi Sabatelli, the rest came from Anna Logan, Fran Lonergan, Jen Eadie and Laura Mann.

Meanwhile, in men`s National League 1 Watsonians saw off Kelburne in a nine goal thriller at Titwood, their 5-4 win ensured that the Edinburgh side leapfrogged the Paisley outfit into eighth position in the table.

Watsonians`goals came from Danny Cain, Ben Allan, two from Fraser Heigh and Roddy Craig. Josh Cairns notched a treble for Kelburne with Peter Baldwin getting the other.
