Canterbury Crack Under Luzerner SC

16 Feb 2008

Canterbury HC saw no luck in the second half against Luzerner SC and lost 9-1 after a split score at the half in Perth at the EuroHockey .

The first half started well for Canterbury  as Edward Welch scored in the fifth minute but happiness did not last long for the English team as Luzerner’s Thomas Gahwiller answered straight afterwards. The rest of the first half lacked of any real chances and ended 1-1.

In the second half, Michael Casagrande scored for Luzerner just after a Canterbury goal had been disallowed. That was the beginning of the end: as a result of that goal, Canterbury lost control and went too forward to try and get back in the game.

Their strategy didn’t work; as the defence went too far up the Swiss team found holes to sweep right past them to score.  Canterbury’s defence played too far forward most of the game and the Swiss side was too good at breaking the line. In the last minute when the deal seemed to be sealed, Luzerner netted another two quick goals to end with a 9-1 win.
