CLUB DEVELOPMENT
Clubs are more than just teams of players - they are the heart of Scottish Hockey. Clubs are where friendships form, skills develop and players experience hockey.
Clubs contribute massively to hockey's reputation as a fantastic social and family sport - all the more reason to secure strong clubs now and for the future.
For hockey clubs, we can provide useful advice and resources for the development of the club, and information on how to manage its activities.
Foundation of Club Development
Our Club Cluster Model forms the
foundation of club development and is essential for the growth of
hockey.
A hockey cluster is a hockey club linked to local primary and secondary schools. It draws young people to the club's youth section to provide a sustainable flow of players to the club.
There can be many variations on how it operates but the main objective is for clubs to link to schools to provide hockey opportunities for young people.

Building a Strong Hockey Club
To build and establish a strong hockey club, members need to consider the importance of:
- An organised committee to manage the club and its activities
- Promoting a range of fun activities to meet the needs of current members and attract new members
- Recruiting and rewarding enthusiastic volunteers to help deliver the club's activities
Strength isn't just about a club's size or league position too. Well-structured clubs are more organised, get more people involved and increase satisfaction levels of their members.
Well-structured clubs get more people playing, improve the standard of play and therefore attract more members.
