Crefelder Crushes Poznan

16 Feb 2008

The German team Crefelder HTC classified first of pool A after beating polish team KS Pocztowiec Poznan by 3-7.

The Germans appear as clear favourites to win the cup as they are the only team who have not been beaten and have scored an impressive figure of 29 goals in only three matches.  “We have come here to win the final,” said German Team Manager Kevan Butt.

Poznan started with energy as in minute one, Piotr Mikula almost scored and just a minute later, the Germans lost the ball in a move that led Mikula to finally score. It seemed a good start for the Poles. However, the draw came in minute five, when Alan Butt scored for Crefelder HTC.

The most spectacular score took place just a minute after, when Tim Witthaus managed to score from an almost impossible angle in the left corner. After that, the Germans felt very confident and scored a further two field goals.

The first half finished with two consecutive penalty corners for Poznan. The first one was stopped by goalkeeper Marcin Krolikowski although Rafal Grotowsky scored after the Umpire called the second one.

In the second half, Crefelder HTC felt comfortable, as if they had been playing at home. Three goals in minutes 22, 23 and 26 left a clear 7-2 lead that made it almost impossible for Poznan to win. They did their best to push forward but the Germans seemed to have built the Berlin Wall across their goal. After several attempts, the Poles only managed to score one more in the last minute.

Although KS Pocztowiec Poznan lost this match, the squad still classify as second of  pool A and will play Spaniards Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.

Crefelder HTC will play Scotland’s Menzieshill next. Kevan Butt concluded: “It would have been ideal to play the Spanish team first. A lot of people are coming from Scotland to support the Scottish team and that gives them an advantage. However, we have come here to win the final, and that means that we have to be ready to win any team we are going to play.”
