EuroHockey Youth Nations Championships 2007
For the first time ever Scotland hosted the EuroHockey Youth Nations Championships in July of 2007 at Edinburgh’s Peffermill. This prestigious event brought the top 16 European nations together at under 18 level.
Scottish Hockey President Jacky Burnett said: “The event was a tremendous success and proved to be a great showcase for Scottish Hockey. I received many compliments on our venue, organisation and friendliness.”
Scotland’s own Kenny Bain took the highest honours winning the Top Goal Scorer and Player of the Tournament awards. Kenny told Scottish Hockey: “When my name was called out for Top Goal Scorer that was the best thing that has ever happened, getting Player of the Tournament was nice too but Top Goal Scorer was my target for the Europeans and I made it.”
Bain netted 10 goals with his closest rival for Top Goal Scorer, Tom Boon of Belgium, only scoring six. The final standings for the EuroHockey Youth Nations Championships were as follows:
