Veterans

Scotland fields teams at national level in the following Mens age groups:

  • over 40
  • over 45
  • over 50
  • over 55
  • over 60
  • over 65

At each level, depending on the rules of the tournament or competition, there can be opportunities for a small number of under age players to participate with their more senior team mates.

The National womens veterans team (over 35) played its first two fixtures against England at Hawick in May 2007. For more details, go to Womens Veterans Hockey in Scotland.

More and more players are continuing to play hockey well into middle age and beyond, though Scotland still has very few veterans players compared with some of the countries against which they compete, like England, Germany and the Netherlands.

Selectors Required

Do you have what it takes to select the stars of the future? At the forthcoming trails at Peffermill on Sunday 9th December the Scotland Veterans Over 50s and 55s will be choosing their squads for 2008. After winning the Home Nations for the last 2 years some of the 50s have reached the end of the line and will need to be replaced by youngsters from the Over 45s. The 55s will also be looking to strengthen their squad. If you are an ex-international, a coach or just someone who would like a say let us know by emailing Glenn Paton at the following address:glenn.paton@sunderland.ac.uk.
