Scotland's Over 40's Men at World Masters

Scotland has been invited to participate fully in the next World Masters Championships to be held in Hong Kong in 2009, with a possible intermediate tournament in India in 2008.

Sat 1st & Sun 2nd September - Home Internationals in Swansea, Wales

The Scottish Squad travelled to this year's Home Internationals in Swansea with high hopes after their performances in the World Masters in Birmingham.

First up England on Saturday morning and after an initial surge by the English for 5 minutes Scotland started to move the ball around well with Andrew Scoular and Andrew Kay dominating the midfield. Continual pressure eventually paid off when Peter Lelliott fired home a Penalty Corner to give the Scots the lead. Scotland continued to dominate completely and the English looked completely bemused as to how to get into game. On 60 minutes a mistake at the back led to the English being gifted an equaliser totally against the run of play. 1 minute and 38 seconds later it was 3-1 to England as the Scottish defence put on red suits and white beards. Five minutes later Scotland were once again in command but never really looked like a comeback was within them.

Saturday afternoon Wales. A very shaky Scotland took the park against a very physical Welsh team who were up for the challenge having already defeated Ireland that morning. Scotland were fortunate to be only 1-0 down thanks to good stops from keeper George Armstrong. A more positive and physical setup in the second half led to goals from Peter Lelliott and Andrew Scoular giving the Scots a hard fought victory.

Sunday morning the Scots start against Ireland with the entire midfield of Andrew Kay, Andrew Scoular, Colin MacBeth & Allan Kerr out before the start. The remaining 11 players looked to be in for a very hard time with the Irish scoring two very quick goals before a reshuffle looked to have settled the team. However a further two goals saw the Scots go in Shell-shocked at half-time. The second half saw the Scots eventually get a goal back and scorn several good chances to get more goals.

All the other Home Countries have managed to bring in new younger players which now makes the Scottish squad quite an aged group. We would be very keen on involving new players and look forward to new contacts.
