2008 Season

Trials for Scotland Over 50s and Scotland Over 55s for the 2008 season will be held at Peffermill on Sunday 9 December 2007 09:00-17:00 in the form of an inter-district tournament. A parallel competition will be held for the Over 40s and Over 45s.

To qualify to play for the respective national teams, players should be 50 years of age or more in September 2008 (for the over 50s) and 55 years of age or more in June 2008 (for the over 55s). A system of district organisers has been set up for the two Over 50s groups and they will be responsible for advertising the trial within clubs in their districts and organising district teams for the tournament.

Selectors Required

Do you have what it takes to select the stars of the future? At the forthcoming trails at Peffermill on Sunday 9th December the Scotland Veterans Over 50s and 55s will be choosing their squads for 2008. After winning the Home Nations for the last 2 years some of the 50s have reached the end of the line and will need to be replaced by youngsters from the Over 45s. The 55s will also be looking to strengthen their squad. If you are an ex-international, a coach or just someone who would like a say let us know by emailing Glenn Paton at the following address:glenn.paton@sunderland.ac.uk.

2007 Season

Scotland Over 50s headed off to Swansea on the weekend of 1-2 September 2007 to defend the Home International Trophy. A process that started in November 2006 with the District Championships saw a squad of 16 chosen for the task.

Trips to Nottingham for the English Divisionals, Temse in Belgium and the World Masters in Birmingham have culminated in the fittest best prepared team ever to represent Scotland at this level.

Under the expert gaze of former Internationals Billy McLean and Stuart Smith the preparation has been thorough and exhaustive but as George Buchan (Brooklands) the Captain said "the reason we won last year was that we were fitter than all the other teams. I am in no doubt that they will all raise their games for this year so we had to raise ours even higher". The results leave no doubt that all the hard work paid off, Scotland retaining the trophy with three wins, scoring twelve goals with only one conceded.
