Over 50s - Scottish Senior Masters

Scotland's over 50s squad 2009

The 2010 season is now well under way and Scotland are now preparing for the Home Nations Tournament which this year is being hosted by Ireland at the Lisnagarvey Hockey Club.    So far this year the squad has had four training sessions and played in two tournaments with a further three training sessions planned before the team departs for the Home Nations.  The Senior Masters side aims to meet monthly throughout the year and you can read more details of what the team are up to this season by using the following link.

The team is already planning its campaign for 2011 which will include tours to Nottingham to participate in the English Divisional Championships in early May, a trip to either a Belgian or Dutch veterans festival in late May or early June and the Home Nations tournament which is scheduled for August 2011.

But the highlight of 2011 is undoubtedly going to be the International Masters Hockey Tournament scheduled to be played in late November in Singapore.  This will be Scotland Senior Masters third venture onto the world stage, having participated as late invitees to the 2007 tournament hosted by England and again in 2009 in Hong Kong where a superb performance (including a 0-0 draw against World Champions Australia), saw them finish third in the competition.

The squad has successfully integrated a number of players this season but is always looking for new (preferably young and fit!) talent.  To qualify to play for the Senior Masters in 2011 you need to be 50 years of age or more in September 2011 and have an appropriate link to Scotland (http://www.scottish-hockey.org.uk/caniplayforscotland.aspx) .   Trials are held in early December 2010 in the form of an Inter-District tournament.   If you would like to represent your District at these trials, please contact your local representative for further details.

Further trials are scheduled for late January 2011 following which the squad for the 2011 season will be announced.  The squad then meets every month (normally on a Sunday at a venue in central Scotland) for training and practice games.
