Coaching is the cornerstone of talent development, and coaches play an invaluable role in inspiring and developing more, better, happier players. To help support coaches, Scottish Hockey, in partnership with Great Britain Hockey, have developed an online resource site.

What is Hockey Hub?

Hockey Hub is a one-stop shop, packed full of useful resources. Whether you coach or umpire, there is relevant content available to suit everyone. Hockey Hub is a free resource and once registered, you will be able to gain access to video footage and online questions to enhance your knowledge and understanding of varying aspects.

Coaching – Player, Environment and Game:

  • Player – Its vital coaches understand the players, what is appropriate for them and what does good look like for the players in your sessions? End in Mind player characteristics are designed to provide an insight into what ‘really good’ looks like.
  • Environment – The Golden Thread consists of five key principles that should be at the core of every coaching session. In the website, you can learn more about how to apply The Golden Thread to your practices. The resources are designed to stretch and challenge you as well as support you in your application of The Golden Thread.
  • Game – It’s important coaches utilise the development themes and principles of the game to support players’ understanding of the game, performance and enjoyment in the sport.

Umpiring –

  • Rules of Hockey – complete the online test to keep yourself up to date or learn about the rules.
  • You’re the Coach – share your views with umpires across the country with each scenario presented.
  • Umpire Development Modules – complete each module to gain further insight into how to umpire each area
  • Club Umpire Developer Training – do you support beginner umpires in your club?  Complete this training to understand the process of supporting others to develop as umpires.
