Coach Qualification

For Level 1 qualified coaches or those who can evidence prior learning or who have attended workshops (Introduction to Hockey Coaching, Engaging Games or Coaching Club Players), you can start working towards your qualification.  These are now delivered fully online or blended with online and in-person Modules.

  • Ideal for those wishing to work towards becoming a team/squad coach who plans a programme and possibly supports other coaches/deliverers.
  • Anyone over 18 years old can attend
  • Duration is approx. 4 days
  • Increases your depth of hockey and coaching knowledge
  • Challenges your use of the Golden Thread and Change IT Models
  • Improves your delivery using observation, analysis and reflection

Sessional Coach Qualification

For Level 1 qualified coaches or those who can evidence prior learning or those who have attended workshops (Introduction to Hockey Coaching, Engaging Games for Children and Coaching Club Players), you can start working towards your qualification.  These are now delivered fully online or blended with online and in-person Modules.

  • Ideal for those wishing to work towards leading sessions and short-term planning.
    Anyone over 18 years old can attend
    Duration is approx. 2 days
    Increases your depth of hockey and coaching knowledge
    Challenges your use of the Golden Thread and Change IT models

The cost is £240 for Scottish Hockey members; £299 for non-members

Following the successful completion of all aspects of either coaching course – online tasks, modules and practical assessment (20mins/40mins), you will be awarded a formal qualification from 1st4Sport.

Participants must also complete a Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport Workshop.

sportscotland subsidy is available direct from Scottish Hockey and will be provided to Scottish Hockey members who apply using the application process and meet the criteria aligned to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (Rural, SIMD areas, Women, U25, working with young people or people with disabilities).

Funding available will be 50% for participants.
