Volunteering Roles

Coaching
Coaches are required at all levels. Whether you have aspirations of International success or enjoy coaching our players of the future at youth level, there's a number of qualifications available to develop your coaching skills.
Umpires
Without them we wouldn't have a sport!! Umpires are required at all levels from Youth through to International competition and there is a qualification structure in place to allow you to develop your skills as far as you want to go.
Event Organisation
Do you have event management skills? Or do you wish to develop them? All competitions need a Tournament Director to ensure smooth running of all aspects of the tournaments and to liaise with all other volunteers, team personnel and Scottish Hockey staff. These are challenging roles can develop the best of skills.
Event Operations
Under the supervision of the Tournament Director, several roles exist within events organisation to assist with the smooth running of each event. Ball boys/girls, table staff, gate staff, announcers, timers and 'gophers' all play an essential part in the running of an event. Get ivolved and develop new skills at the same time.
Judges
Like the umpires, competitions cannot function without judges. Challenging decisions need to be made at tournaments of all levels from Youth to International. Gain practical experience of this essential role and progress through the levels of tournament. A knowledge of hockey is preferred!
Development
Supported by a dedicated Development Network at Scottish Hockey and across all regions, develoment roles play an important role in keeping Scottish Hockey at the forefront of participation. A commitment to developing the sport of hockey is required at all levels from running clubs through to districts and national level.
Administration
Organised and dedicated? Again, supported by a dedicated team at Scottish Hockey and its associated districts, volunteers are essential in running clubs and districts. From treasurers paying the bills to match secretaries arranging the fixtures, skilled administrators play an important part of all aspects of hockey.
IT/Web
The window of the world into what's going on at your club! A website can help attract members, can be used to communicate with them and can keep the world informed of what's going on. Technically minded volunteers are required to assist in this area.
Communications
Attract new members, raise the profile of hockey in your area, link with your commiunities. Several functions can be fulfilled through good communications. If you can communicate well, you are the type of person in demand in hockey across Scotland.
Press
Hold the back pages! Volunteers are sought across the country to compile match reports and liaise with the press on behalf of Scottish Hockey and its members clubs. Alternatively, help your local club to make the headlines.
Club/District Volunteers
From match secretaries to committee conveners, a whole host of volunteers are required to bring their skill sets to the table and continue to develop the sport in Scotland. If your passion is youth hockey, developing officials, developing hockey in a geographical area or assisting in running a club Scottish Hockey, its Districts and Clubs need committed people. Even the driver plays an essential role!
Youth Panel
Aged 16 - 21? Want to make a difference in hockey and learn new skills at the same time?
The Scottish Hockey Youth Panel has been established to encourage more young people to participate in leadership roles within hockey.
