Wiener AC Waste Canterbury
17 Feb 2008
Wiener AC went out on a 2-8 win against England’s Canterbury, who was unable to get a win throughout the tournament, at the EuroHockey Indoor Club Championships Cup in Perth, Scotland today.
The match, determining the 7th and 8th place takers, started out quite balanced. In minute one, Canterbury had a failed attempt and Wiener took advantage of the situation pushing back to net their own goal.
Both teams had plenty of failed attempts to score in the following minutes but in the 7th minute Wiener AC’s Konig Benedikit scored a penalty stroke for the Austrian’s bringing a bit of life back into the game. After this goal Canterbury spiralled out of control, unable to stop the Austrian’s attack and fell 4-0 at the end of the first half.
After the break Wiener AC came back with the same force as Michel Max put one in after just 15 seconds; with Benedikit striking again soon after. Canterbury got what looked like a second wind and pushed back, with Captain Stewart Keir getting his side on the board in the 25th minute.
Canterbury fought bravely and tried to score several times. Wiener wouldn’t relent and after a first failed attempt, Patrick Fisher scored for Wiener from a penalty corner with seven minutes to go. Canterbury’s Zack Jones conjured up one last goal but it was Wiener AC’s Benedikit who scored a hat trick in the last minute to put Canterbury back on the bus home suffering a 2-8 loss.
