Caledonian Cougars have a successful Futures Cup 2019 Day two

In the second day of play for Caledonian Cougars at the Futures Cup 2019 there were two wins and two draws in competitive matches.

Caledonian Cougars 4-4 Wessex Leopards

The U17 Boys’ Futures Cup saw another Caledonians Cougars goal-fest as they drew 4-4 with Wessex Leopards. Although level in the Pool with the Leopards Cougars stay top on goal difference.

The goals came thick and fast for the Caledonian Cougars as they raced into a 3-0 lead. In the opening quarter a Struan Walker penalty corner got the goal scoring underway before Alex Wilson added his name to the score sheet with a solid strike at the end of the quarter.

Another penalty corner opportunity saw Ben Carroll find the net to put the Cougars 3-0 up in just 18 minutes.

In the final quarter Wessex Leopards went on a goal scoring spree to level the scores. In a three-minute spell Toby Power; Olly Witts; and Jacob Payton all scored for the Leopards to pull it back to 3-3.

The goals prompted a reaction from the Cougars and Jacob Tweedie struck to put his side back in front. The advantage didn’t last long as Sam MacKenzie equalised again for the Leopards before a nervy ending saw the game end in a 4-4 draw.

 

Caledonian Cougars 3-2 Wessex Leopards

The U15 Girls Futures Cup saw Caledonian Cougars run our 3-2 winners over Wessex Leopards in a competitive contest.

It was a lightning start to the match for the Caledonian Cougars with two goals scored in the opening three minutes. Ava Smith was on target to open the scoring in the second minute of the match before Itske Hooftman smashed home at a penalty corner to put the Cougars 2-0 ahead.

The contest was a good one and it brought another action packed minute on the stroke of half time. Within second of each other both sides scored to make it 3-1 at half time. An Olivia Henderson penalty corner gave the Cougars their goal while Jess Dyson supplied the strike for Wessex Leopards.

Late in the final quarter the Leopards pulled it back to 3-2 when Anna Edwards scored a penalty corner, but the Caledonian Cougars held on to secure the win.

 

Celtic Jaguars 1-6 Caledonian Cougars

A good performance by Caledonian Cougars saw them win 6-1 against Celtic Jaguars in the U15 Boys Futures Cup.

Caledonian Cougars made a great start in the game when they went 2-0 ahead in the opening quarter. First Ben Galloway was on target to start the goal rush before Charlie Jack doubled the Cougars’ advantage when he made it 2-0.

Celtic Jaguars pulled one back just before half time when Thomas Diamond scored but this was soon followed by two goal for the Cougars. Adam Mackenzie was on target first before a penalty corner by Charlie Jack gave him his second of the afternoon, and Caledonian Cougars’ fourth.

It went to 5-1 early in the final quarter when David Macrae slammed the ball home from a penalty corner, before another penalty corner routine saw Jamie Croll get on the score sheet to make it 6-1.

 

Saxon Tigers 1-1 Caledonian Cougars

Caledonian Cougars and Saxon Tigers battled out a competitive draw in the Futures Cup U17 girls’ competition.

It was a tight and competitive match that saw the Cougars pick up four green cards for their efforts, with both teams battling hard for the points.

Late in the final quarter was where all the goal scoring action took place. Ellie MacKenzie struck for the Caledonian Cougars with just four minutes of the match remaining.

Any hopes of a Cougars victory were dented by a Saxon Tigers equaliser at the death; a penalty corner strike by Eloise Richards levelled scores in the final moments of the match to result in a draw and share of the points.
