SWMH seek coaches and managers for 2021
The Scottish Women’s Masters (SWMH) is seeking coaches and team managers for their 60+ and 65+ squads ahead of an exciting 2021 season.
The SWMH 60 + squad will compete in a practice head-to-head weekend against the North of England (Glasgow), the Home Countries (Edinburgh) and the World Cup (Cape Town).
A SWMH 65+ non-representative team will be included for the first time next year as a precursor to having an international squad in 2022 competing in Home Countries, Europeans and World Cups.
Coaches and Managers are essential to the success of our squads and volunteers are welcome. Successful candidates for these posts will find themselves working with enthusiastic players who are still keen to learn and to play hockey in an increasingly competitive international Masters environment. Coach for women’s 60+ squad

Candidates’ qualifications:
Essential – Level 2 or Coach Course (new equivalent) with experience of coaching a club team.
Desirable – experience of coaching at representative level.
The role would particularly suit someone looking to gain experience of coaching at international standard and tournament events.
Generally the coach works with a Manager and liaises with a leadership group of players from the squad. This provides organisational assistance and the opportunity to gain feedback to be flexible with the training programme in terms of dates, venues and content.
Role of the successful candidate:
To produce and implement a well-structured and progressive coaching programme to meet the needs of the players for competitions.
To prepare, organise and deliver training sessions at selected venues.
To coach the team during competitions in Scotland and abroad.
To coach the team at the World Cup with the duties that involves. This is usually a 10-14 day event.
Potential Candidates should possess the following skills:
The ability to develop and deliver high quality coaching sessions, focusing on player needs, technical, tactical, physical and mental aspects.
The ability to communicate in a highly effective manner and have excellent team building skills
The ability to lead and improve players
The ability to motivate players to deliver their best in every game
Remuneration
The successful candidates will receive:
Travelling expenses for attending tournaments
Accommodation costs for attending tournaments
At the moment we do not generally pay travel costs to training but that can be discussed if need be.

Coach for women’s 65+ squad

Presently we do not have an international squad competing in the age group but are intending to do so in 2022. In 2021 we would like to pull a squad together, playing in non-representative matches as a lead in to competing fully in the following year. Hopefully the programme will be made up of games against, local opposition, England 65+ A & B , English Regional teams. The programme will be structured not to coincide with the above dates.
In 2021 you will not require a Coach qualification (new equivalent Level 2) but will do in 2022 when we intend competing on the world stage. This could be an ideal opportunity for an emerging coach looking for experience. The role would particularly suit someone looking to gain experience of coaching at international standard and tournament events in the future. There is support available for the successful candidate, to gain a Coach qualification through 2021 and from other members of the Masters Hockey Coaching group.

The manager has overall responsibility for all off pitch organisation pertaining to the masters squad. The manager is responsible for the behaviour of the team on and off the field and must ensure the safety of all participants at all times. It is particularly important that you are responsible for the organisation of the squad (training/tournaments), financial implications of squad activity, equipment and kit.
Duties:
Plan logistics with the coach in accordance to the squad programme
Deliver the programme on budget with clear financial records
Communicate with a variety of individuals and organisations in order to deliver the programme.
Lead and deliver all aspects of team logistics
Take responsibility for the conduct and behaviour of the team and individuals on and off the field whilst representing Scottish Women’s Masters Hockey.
Requirements for the position are:
Experience of managing people
Experience of working within a team environment
A knowledge and understanding of the technicalities of managing a hockey team
Experience of organising logistics for a team of up to 20 people
Experience of working within a budget and providing clear budget reports
The manager will need to demonstrate:
Proven leadership and decision making skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Sound organisational and planning skills, complemented by attention to detail with particular attention to financial control.
Remuneration
The successful candidates will receive:
50% of travelling expenses for attending tournaments
50% of accommodation costs for attending tournaments
