Scots start strongly at School Games

Scotland had an excellent first day at the 2021 School Games in Loughborough with two good wins.

The boys started strongly with goals in each of the first two quarters against England Blue to take a 2-0 half-time lead. Captain, Ally Douglas and Ben Volland grabbed the goals.  Charlie Jack continued his recent goalscoring form with a third from a penalty corner in the final quarter before England scored a late consolation goal to make it 3-1.

The girls followed this up with an excellent performance in a 4-1 win against England Blue. Ava Smith got the ball rolling after only 2 minutes before England equalised from a penalty corner only 3 minutes later. However, two goals from penalty corners by Jennifer Veitch and Ava Findlay gave the Scots a 3-1 half-time lead. Ciara Forgie made it 4-1 early in the second half to complete the scoring.

Both teams go into today’s second pool matches with a great chance of reaching Sunday’s finals. Each team’s placing in their three-team pool determines whether they play in the final, 3rd/4th or 5th/6th play-off. The boys play England Red at 10am and the girls play Wales at 12pm.

As always, Scottish umpires are also starring at the Games. Kristie Burnett and Jamie Telfer have both been in action on the first couple of days.
