A foursome by Barr puts Grange to the top

ABERDEEN ASSET MANAGEMENT NATIONAL LEAGUE

Four set piece strikes by Rob Barr was the catalyst in Grange`s
comfortable 6-1 win over Watsonians, a result that takes the
Edinburgh side to the top of the Aberdeen Asset Management first
division after Glynhill Kelburne`s fixture with AMN Hillhead at
Bellahouston became a victim of the frost.

Barr scored early with a low shot past the goalkeeper at a
penalty corner, and that was the score at the interval.
Andrew Brogdon, out of action since March, was taken out by the
keeper and Barr notched his second from the spot.
Cammie Fraser made it three when he beat a defender at the top of
the circle and fired home a low shot.    The fourth
came when Gary Cameron had his stick chopped in the circle and Barr
was again accurate from the spot for his hat-trick.
Although Watsonians pulled one back, Grange continued their scoring
spree, Adam Fallis lobbed the keeper at a rebound and Barr
completed the tally with a low set piece strike.

Grove Menzieshill retained their third place with a 4-2 victory
over PSL Clydesdale.   The Taysiders led 2-1 at the
interval with two penalty corner strikes by Gavin Tomlinson while
Rory McCann replied for the home side after Ciaran Crawford`s
initial shot hit a post.   Gavin Byers gave Menzieshill a
3-1 advantage but a set piece conversion by Steven McKnight replied
for the Glasgow side.   Tomlinson`s hat-trick and fourth
goal sealed the points for the Dundonians.

Inverleith dropped out of the title race losing 6-3 to Edinburgh
University while the Western Wildcats` encounter with AAM
Gordonians was abandoned with a frozen pitch after 20 minutes, the
Granite City men leading by a single goal at the time.

In the women`s competition leaders Grove Menzieshill retained
pole position with a 10-1 win over Grange, Ali Bell (3), Hazel Hall
(2), Ailsa Wyllie (2), Linda Clement (2) and one from Karin Belch
were the scorers.   Two goals by Nikki Kidd and another
by Sarah Robertson was the foundation of Edinburgh University`s 3-0
win over Dundee Wanderers, a result that keeps the students in
second spot.

A last minute strike by Laura Jarvie gave Giffnock a 2-1 win
over third placed CALA Edinburgh.   Earlier Elaine
Brierley had provided Giffnock with a first half lead, only for
Kerry-Anne Hastings to equalise for the Edinburgh side after the
interval.

Milne Craig Western returned to winning ways with a 3-0 win over
Glynhill Kelburne at Titwood.   Ali Howie scored with a
thunderous shot from the top of the circle to give Western the lead
at the interval.    In the second half Howie found
the target again, this time with a fierce reverse stick shot, and
Helen Walker finished off the scoring with a tap in.

The relegation clash between Inverleith a Western Wildcats also
fell victim to the frosty weather.
