Andy Tennant leaves Scottish Hockey

Scottish Hockey can confirm that Andy Tennant has left his role as Head of Performance.

Tennant joined Scottish Hockey in 2017 after 13 instrumental years in Scottish Cricket. In his 5 years with Scottish Hockey, the sport has seen the development of a clear Playground to Podium Pathway; the creation of a domestic Super Series at both senior and youth level; the ground-breaking Brave Performance Blueprint; and key spin-off initiatives such as the Brave Academy Programme.

During his tenure, Scotland’s international teams have seen also seen unprecedented levels of success; with both men’s and women’s teams in the top 20 of the FIH world ranking together for the first time in decades, along with both male and female under 18 and 21 teams competing at European A Division level together for the first time.

Tennant’s departure is a result of structural changes inside Scottish Hockey’s workforce as it goes through a period of change. As part of Scottish Hockey’s ambitious 10-year vision to be one of the top governing bodies in the UK the organisation is going through a reset phase, which will see changes in many levels of the organisation.

It is the second such workforce change, with Jamie Frail, Head of Domestic Game also recently leaving after 11 years’ service, having delivered significant growth in participation and leaving behind a strong domestic game team.

Tennant said: “I am proud of what we as a performance team have achieved together in the last few years. We have some great coaches in Scotland working extremely hard to help our athletes become more competitive on the world stage – and we are definitely making big strides forward.

“What I am most proud of though, is the clear vision and Scottish identity we have created for our whole pathway through the Brave Performance Blueprint, and I wish Scotland’s teams and coaches continued success over the coming years as we strive to become a top ten hockey nation.”

Scottish Hockey Chief Executive Barry Cawte said;

“We would like to thank Andy for his efforts over the years and for putting in place the foundations for a successful future. We wish him well in his next ventures and have no doubt he will make an impact in his next opportunities. It is a vitally important year for us and as such we look forward to announcing very soon, how we intend on filling the void left behind Andy as we move into our new era.”
