Another good performance, but Scotland women fall short in second match against Australia
Scotland women lost 5-1 to Australia in the second of two test matches against the number three ranked side in the world in Eindhoven. The result follows a very close 2-1 defeat yesterday with the Scots now set for a two-match series against China in the Netherlands.
A clinical first half from Australia saw them stretch into a 3-0 lead at the midway point. In possession Scotland played through the Aussies well, and created opportunities, but defensive fatigue following the previous match allowed Australia to capitalise.
Early in the third quarter, Scotland struck back. A penalty corner routine was converted by Heather McEwan to pull the score back to 3-1.
Two rebound strikes saw Australia increase their advantage to 5-1 and claim the victory.
Head Coach Chris Duncan said, “Today we developed in many areas, but learned how challenging it is to go back-to-back against teams of this quality. We worked hard to try and be aggressive out if possession, to win the ball high up the pitch, but were caught out at times.
“This is all part of our journey and I am immensely proud of the players and staff for the mind set and approach they have shown. This leads us nicely into two tough tests against China this weekend.”
