Back to back wins in Alanya for Edinburgh University and Clydesdale Western with promotion still very much on the agenda.

WESTERN 3 STADE FRANCAIS (FRANCE) 0

Clydesdale Western sit in pole position in their pool after a comfortable 3-0 win over French side Stade Francais, and now only need to beat Kolos Boryspol from Ukraine tomorrow to secure their place in the promotion play-offs on Monday.

“We are happy to get another win and not to conceded any goals today,” said coach Derek Forsyth. “We feel we should have won by a greater margin. It`s great we are creating so many chances but recognise we need to be more clinical. This will be an area we will look to improve on tomorrow.”

It took the Glasgow side only ten minutes to take the lead through a penalty corner conversion by Scotland striker Fiona Semple, and that is how it stood at the interval.

Any possibility of an upset was stifled by two penalty corner scores in as many minutes early in the second half, the first came from Karin Belch followed by Heather Lang. That was the end of the scoring but Clydesdale did have several later chances to add to their tally.

EDINBURGH UNIVERSITY 5 GAZIANTEP POLISGUCU SK (TURKEY) 2

Against the host side in the heat of Alanya is a daunting task but Edinburgh University accepted the challenge in style with a controlled 5-2 victory.

It started in the very first minute when Jessica Ross put the students ahead with an open play goal to dispel any nerves. Before the Turks could gain any composure former Scotland player Amy Brodie doubled the tally in eleven minutes to consolidate Edinburgh`s control

In the second quarter Georgia Jones made it three from a penalty corner although the host side retaliated with a set piece goal from Perihan Cinar for 3-1 at the interval.

If the Turks were hoping for a revival, then Sophie Hinds` fourth goal from open play certainly stifled that aspiration.

Brodie scored her second goal of the game at another penalty corner but in the closing minutes Ece Sahiner notched a consolation for the home supporters.

Coach Sam Judge said: “It was an improved performance from yesterday`s game . We played some fast fluid hockey and scored some great team goals.”

The Scots only need a draw against Navax AHTC Wien from Austria tomorrow to secure top spot in the pool and with a bit of luck avoid Clydesdale Western in Monday`s promotion play-offs.

Meanwhile in Geneva Western Wildcats men were idle today as their pool in the men`s EuroHockey Club Trophy 11 is reduced to three teams, but in the game that was played Danish side Slagelse beat OSHVSM Phoenix Zytomyr Region from Ukraine 2-1. The result is that Western play the Ukrainian side tomorrow in the final pool match and they need only a draw to top the pool and move on to Monday`s final.
