CALA shock Western

ABERDEEN ASSET MANAGEMENT NATIONAL LEAGUE  –
WOMEN

CALA Edinburgh continue their renaissance in the Aberdeen Asset
Management national league with a 2-1 win over Milne Craig Western
at Meggetland.   CALA`s sojourn at the top echelons of
the first division seems to be short lived when they went down 4-2
to Grove Menzieshill yesterday, but the Edinburgh outfit bounced
back against Western  to hold on to third place in the table
this evening.

Emma Watson gave CALA the lead only for Nicola Pitticas to
equalise for the Glasgow side.   CALA secured the three
points with a second half strike from Millie Brown for their first
win over Western for many a year.

Once again Grove Menzieshill had to dig deep to preserve their
perfect record and pole position in the championship, this time the
Taysiders were held 2-2 by Glynhill Kelburne at the interval at
Bellahouston, but regrouped in the second half to win 5-2 in the
end.   It seemed a normal day at the office when Ailsa
Wyllie opened the scoring for Grove, but the champions were soon
shocked by a reverse stick strike by Rachael Ewing to tie the
scores at 1-1.   Sarah Jamieson restored the Taysiders
lead following a penalty corner breakdown, but back came the
Paisley outfit to equalise through Emma Barlow at another set
piece.

But any possibility of an upset was quickly stifled when Ali
Bell made it 3-2 for Grove two minutes into the second half.
Thereafter, the champion`s superior fitness told and further goals
came from a Linda Clement deflection and an own goal created by
Bell.

Nikki Kidd recorded her second hat-trick of the weekend as
Edinburgh University overcame Inverleith 5-0 to move into second
spot in the table, Sam Judge and Lucy Lanigan were also on target
for the students.

A hat-trick by Vikki Bunce was the catalyst in Dundee Wanderers
7-2 win over Giffnock, moving the Taysiders up to fifth spot in the
championship.   Bunce scored twice in the first half to
give Wanderers a 2-1 advantage at the interval, Giffnock`s reply
came from an own goal.   Amy Rowan put Wanderers 3-1 up,
but Giffnock pulled one back through a breakaway strike from Alex
Wilson.   The Dundonians then stretched their lead, Bunce
notched her third, the next came from an own goal while Charlotte
Watson from an acute angle and Jessica Ross completed the
scoring.

Grange did their survival prospects no harm at all with a 2-0
win over Western Wildcats.

The bottom of the table clash in the men`s first division
between AAM Gordonians and Watsonians ended in a 2-2 draw, a result
that did neither side a great deal of good as both still remain at
the foot on two points.
