Clydesdale started with more confidence passing the ball well and dictating play. However, it was Western Wildcats who opened the scoring in the 11th minute through a goal from Douglas Simpson.
Following numerous chances for Clydesdale, Michael Cockburn eventually secured the visitors’ first goal to even the scoreline at 1-1 just before half time.
The second half was full of action as Western Wildcats came out full of confidence and dictated play, pushing their opponents back into their own half. However, Clydesdale were awarded a penalty after a push in the circle and Fraser Hirst coolly stepped up to slot it in.
This didn’t knock the Wildcats out of their stride though and they went straight back down the other end with Scott McCartney putting a goal away to level the match at 2-2.
Both teams were playing with a sense of urgency, wanting to secure the three points and trying to get the better of each other.
In the 53rd minute, Western Wildcats were awarded a penalty corner and a nice bit of set play passing sent Joe Simpson in on goal post to chip the ball over the keeper to put the Auchenhowie outfit ahead at 3-2.
Nevertheless, Ciaran Crawford equalised for Clydesdale from a penalty corner to make it 3-3.
With a minute to spare the ball was knocked in from the far side of the pitch and captain Crawford managed to get an edge on it which put it across the keeper and into the bottom corner of the goal for PSL team Sport Clydesdale to take the lead at 4-3.
The final whistle went soon after with both teams playing out of their skins to showcase a fine game of hockey.
