Day 1 of Easter 4 Nations Glasgow National Hockey Centre

There were victories for Scotland Emerging Boys and The Netherland U16 Boys on day one of the Easter 4 Nations tournament at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre. The Scots and Dutch meet tomorrow on day two, while England take on France in the U16 boys’ tournament.

 

Scotland Emerging Boys 3-2 France U16

It was a 3-2 victory for Scotland Emerging Boys in an action-packed opening match of the U16 Easter 4 Nations at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre.

Good Scottish pressing in the early stages prompted a number of French unforced errors, but it was France who created the first chance of the game. A low Louis Petre penalty corner was well blocked on the line. France clocked up another two corner efforts, but Scotland coped well and the quarter ended goalless.

France went 1-0 up in the second quarter through Gauthier Mouiche with a far post tap-in.

Scotland equalised with two minutes of the half remaining when Andrew McGrane sailed a drag flick into the top right corner. 1-1.

The third quarter continued to be tight with both sides coming close with penalty corner efforts, but unable to find the net.

France went 2-1 ahead in the final quarter when a Gabin Leborge pass across goal deflected off a Scottish stick and into the net.

Scotland struck right back and from the third attempt at a penalty corner McGrane struck his second for 2-2.

With two minutes to go Scotland was awarded a penalty stroke and Findlay Duncan made no mistake with a bullet into the top left corner. 3-2, which was how it ended with Scotland taking the opening day points.

 

England U16 Boys 1-5 The Netherlands U16 Boys

An eye-catching performance by The Netherlands U16 Boys saw them beat England 5-1 on day one of the Easter 4 Nations at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre.

The Netherlands took the lead after a lovely passing move carved open the English defence, allowing Arnoud Raymakers to lob the goalkeeper for 1-0.

It soon went to 2-0 when a lovely through ball found Elias Hoepelman in space, and finished clinically to double the Dutch lead.

The second quarter saw The Netherlands enjoy the bulk of the possession, but the English dug their heels in. The England resolve held until a long pass fizzed into the circle for Floris Rap to deflect high into the net for 3-0.

A low penalty corner strike into the bottom right corner by England’s Jos Wood pulled the score back to 3-1, but almost immediately Rap bagged his second for The Netherlands to make it 4-1.

It went to 5-1 in the final quarter when Olivier Van Uffen fired home from close range with four minutes left to play, and the Dutch walked away with the points.
