DEADLINE CHANGE OF DATE – Glasgow 2014 Volunteers

PLEASE NOTE EXPRESSION OF INTEREST APPLICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED

Glasgow 2014 will open its volunteer application process mid January (closing end of February 2013) and will be looking for key volunteers within Scotland, to fill a variety of roles within the hockey venue at Glasgow Green National Hockey Centre, as well as for other venues and locations. Further details about volunteering in general can be found on the Glasgow 2014 Website. However, Scottish Hockey has been asked to assist in identifying suitably experienced individuals and here’s how you can get involved.

Please read the below carefully.

Sport Specific – Basic Criteria
Included in the estimated 15,000 general volunteers needed, Glasgow 2014 and Scottish Hockey will work together to identify suitably experienced volunteers who have the skill sets for their sport specific roles. Some of these sport specific roles involve Athlete Services, Field of Play, International Federation and Training Venue roles which all involve a technical understanding of the sport.

The key criteria for volunteering in a sport specific role at the Commonwealth Games are:
–    Being a member of Scottish Hockey
–    Being available for 3 training sessions in the build-up to the Games
–    Being available for at least 8 days during the Games, although a lot of sport  roles will involve availability over a range of 21 days from 13th July to 3rd August 2014
–    Have a strong technical understanding of hockey
–    Have previous experience volunteering at hockey events
–    Minimum age of 16 on date of application

Legacy
As part of this ‘Expression of Interest’, Scottish Hockey is also looking at the legacy of the Commonwealth Games and looking for volunteers that wish to be involved in the sport for many more years to come. By putting yourself forward for a hockey specific role at the Commonwealth Games you are making an informal commitment to volunteer at future Scottish Hockey events. Scottish Hockey will hold your details as a potential volunteer and you may be contacted at such a time when volunteers are required to establish your availability.

Only those willing to help with the long term development of the sport and willing to volunteer at Scottish Hockey events will be considered for these sport specific roles. If you do not want to be considered for future events, you are still able to able to apply to be a general games volunteer through the Commonwealth Games website and no Expressions of Interest need to be made to us.

Process
If you think you have the necessary skill sets to work in a hockey specific environment and wish to improve your chances of being selected for interview for one of these sport specific role, you will need to complete our ‘Expression of Interest’ (EoI) form. Scottish Hockey will be involved in an initial consultation with Glasgow 2014 with the Expression of Interest forming the basis of these discussions, therefore you must complete this pre-application EoI stage.

You will be asked to provide contact details, previous experience and reasons why you think you should be put forward for one of these roles. The deadline for all Expressions of Interest is MONDAY 7th JANUARY 2013.

Please note, this process is purely an Expression of Interest in being involved in sport specific roles for the Commonwealth Games and future events in Scotland and does not guarantee the selection for an interview with Glasgow 2014.

All applicants must visit the 2014 website between mid January and the end of February to complete their volunteer application form, to be possibly selected for an interview for the Commonwealth Games.

Scottish Hockey will only be involved in this initial consultation and will not be involved in the formal selection and recruitment process for Glasgow 2014. Should you be unsuccessful in getting a sport specific role, your application will then be put into the larger pool of applicants for general volunteering roles, you do not need to make further applications.

If you have any specific questions regarding this process or are having difficulties filling in the Expression of Interest form please contact Louise McIntyre or 0131 453 9070
