Feast of festive hockey at Grove Menzieshill Invitational Tournament

Dundee club Grove Menzieshill will host their
traditional indoor invitational tournament at the Dundee
International Sports Centre (DISC) from 28-30 December
2012.

The event is sponsored by Montrose based Intervention
Rentals who specialise in supporting the North Sea Oil sector in
the local area

Featuring a host of international players, a men’s and women’s
tournament has been organised for the duration of the tournament,
and spectators are invited to attend DISC free of charge for all
three days.

In the men’s draw, hosts Grove Menzieshill will pit their indoor
skills against two Scotland sides in the form of Caledonian Cougars
and Highland Jaguars, Wales, and reigning indoor league champions
Inverleith. The mens’ league leaders will be looking to build
on their recent league wins and establish themselves as favourites
to lift the Scottish title when games resume in January.

With the Scottish international players also due in continental
competition early next year, the tournament will provide Billy
McPherson’s squad with useful game time ahead of the EuroHockey
Indoor Nations Championship II in Italy.

Seven teams have entered the women’s tournament, including
Scotland senior women, Scotland U21W, USA, USA U21, Grove
Menzieshill and VWS Dundee Wanderers. Like their male counterparts,
Gordon Shepherd’s international side are in preparations for the
EuroHockey Indoor Nations Championship II, which will take place in
Denmark.

Current leaders of the ladies Scottish indoor
league VWS Wanderers will face up to the challenge of USA Ladies in
the first game of the tournament which  will provide them
with top level competition prior to the second half of the
season and their build up to European action in February.
