Fraser strike gives Scotland the edge against Belgium select

Scotland Men got their preparations for the forthcoming FIH World League Round 2 campaign off to an encouraging start with a 3-2 win over an experimental Belgian side in Waterloo earlier today.
Two own goals and a Cammy Fraser strike gave Derek Forsyth’s squad the win and the two sides will meet again tomorrow for a second friendly match.
Commenting on Scotland’s win, Team Manager Eugene Connolly said, “While it wasn’t a full-strength Belgium today, overall it was an excellent performance by the team with lots of positives to take forward. We will do some video work this afternoon to analyse the guys’ performance and then hopefully we can build on today to get another win against Belgium tomorrow.
“It was good to see Gavin Sommerville back in goal and Nicky Parkes playing his first senior match, and we look forward to rounding off a positive weekend tomorrow.”
The Belgians opening the scoring in the 23rd minute from a penalty corner to make it 1-0, only for the Scots to equalise only three minutes later when the ball was deflected into the net off a Belgian defender at the back post to put the game on parity at 1-1.
With the scores level at half-time, Scotland took the lead at 2-1 in the 57th minute when Grange’s Cammy Fraser finished from open play. Six minutes later, they extended their lead at 3-1 when Kelburne’s Michael Bremner flashed a strike into the circle where the ball was deflected off a Belgian defender into the net from Grove Menzieshill midfielder Gavin Byers’ intervention.
Belgium pulled one back two minutes from time from a penalty corner but the Scots held out to take a 3-2 victory at full-time.
