Frozen out

ABERDEEN ASSET MANAGEMENT NATIONAL
LEAGUE

The entire men`s and women`s first division card in the
Aberdeen Asset Managment national league fell victim to the severe
frost that blanketed the entire country.

The only game to beat the freeze was at DISC in Dundee in the
men`s third division where Monarchs beat Strathclyde University 4-1
to move from fourth into second spot behind leaders Harris on goal
difference.  Monarchs were two up at the interval, a Mike
Forbes effort went in off the students` goalkeeper and just on half
time Callum Boag doubled the score.   In the second half
Boag scored again from a penalty corner and Andrew McArtney made it
four with a diving shot.   Strathclyde pulled one back
near the end from a set piece by Tom Brawley.

Grange remain top of the men`s table, three points ahead of
champions Glynhill Kelburne, but with two games more
played.    The head to head between the sides at
Bellahouston today had no chance of going ahead as overnight rain
froze this morning on top of an already frozen pitch.
Grove Menzieshill remain in third spot while Inverleith and Western
Wildcats are also in the top five, but that status will only be
confirmed when both play their two outstanding
fixtures.    Mathematically, PSL Clydesdale and AMN
Hillhead could still slip into the top five, although they would
have to rely on favourable results outwith their
control.   AAM Gordonians and Watsonians rest at the foot
of the division with two points apiece.

Dundee Wanderers are set to make an immediate return to the top
flight, they lead division 2 by 14 points ahead of Falkirk GHG in
second place.    The Taysiders have barely faltered,
only one draw in 12 games so far.   Harris Academy FPs
lead division 2 by two points from Erskine Stewarts Melville.

In the women`s competition Grove Menzieshill remain top with a
perfect record, five points ahead of Edinburgh University in second
spot.   The next two teams, Milne Craig Western and CALA
Edinburgh, are guaranteed a place in the top five, the latter as a
result of one of their best seasons for some considerable
time.    Giffnock`s chances of holding on to the
coveted fifth place could be on a shaky peg, they are only two
points ahead of both Dundee Wanderers and Kelburne who have games
in hand.   The relegation issue looks to be a three-way
contest between Grange, Inverleith and Western
Wildcats.

Granite City Wanderers lead division two, but only by two points
from Watsonians.   But pride of place must go to AAM
Merlin Gordonians, they have a perfect record after ten games and
lead both Stirling Wanderers and Stirling University by a massive
16 points.
