Germany defeat Scottish youngsters

Scotland U16 and U18 played their second match in Four Nations in Lillishall today, as both teams were beaten by the Germans.
Scotland U16 Girls managed to keep Germany at bay for most of the first half, the Germans leading by two goals to nil by half time.
Germany then took advantage of a depleted Scotland side, following a few minor injuries to players, scoring another seven in the second half.
Despite the loss, Coach Bill Robson was still happy with the girls’ performance, “I felt we defended well in the first half and stuck to the game plan, which was one of containment rather than being adventurous. In the second half we were depleted by injury and got tired. However I’m extremely proud of the girls’ efforts and looking forward to our next game.”

Scotland U16s managed to keep Germany at bay for most of the first half, the Germans leading 2-0 at half time.

Germany then took advantage of a depleted Scotland side, due to injuries to a couple of key players, going on to score a further seven goals resulting in a 9-0 victory.

Despite the loss, Scotland U16 Girls Coach Bill Robson was still happy with the teams’ performance, “I felt we defended well in the first half and stuck to the game plan, which was one of containment rather than being adventurous. In the second half we were depleted by injury and got tired. However I’m extremely proud of the girls’ efforts and looking forward to our next game.”

Later in the day, Scotland U18 Girls also suffered defeat against their German opponents.

Following the match, Scotland U18 Girls Head Coach Colin Clarke said, “Today was an interesting game as we competed well in the first half and both teams had chances to score. The second, we under performed and the first eight minutes proved costly as we didn’t deal with the pressure Germany put us under. This is an excellent opportunity for the girls to learn and challenge themselves to work to develop processes to combat these situations.”

Germany opened the scoring in the 17th minute through open play. The Scots held their own in the first half, showing excellent signs of resistance to keep Germany from scoring a second.

Unfortunately Scotland’s solid defence was penetrated again, as Germany scored another just a few minutes in to the second half, followed by a third goal in the 42nd minute through a short corner.

Germany then went on to score another two goals, in the 60th and 70th minute, to finish the game with a 5-0 win.
