Grange claim top spot
Grange moved to the top of the Aberdeen Asset Management
Men’s League, amid a flurry of goals, with an 8-4 win over AAM
Gordonians in Aberdeen this afternoon.
Grange began this high scoring affair courtesy of the ever
reliable set piece expert Rob Barr and doubled their advantage when
Cammie Fraser scored, the first of what would prove to be a hat
trick, following good lead up work from Stewart Laing.
Fraser was on hand with an excellent finish to restore a two
goal advantage after Gordonians had managed to reduce the arrears
temporarily. However once again the Aberdeen side responded in
positive fashion and by the interval had levelled the scores.
Grange took full control of the game after the interval and
further goals from Laing, Fraser, Barr, Matt Connor and Hamish
Imrie established a commanding five goal lead before a spirited
Gordonians scored a further consolation in the last minute.
Glynhill Hotel Kelburne continue to follow closely in Grange’s
footsteps, sitting only three points behind with games in hand, by
travelling to Peffermill and beating Edinburgh University 5-2.
An early Alan Forsyth angled reverse finish following good work
by Michael Christie gave them the perfect start. Jonny Christie
added the second by finishing off a great individual goal when he
beat several defenders before coolly slotting home.
Chris Nelson added the third from a set piece and Forsyth
finished the half by firing home number four after being set up by
Ian Horsfield.
Kelburne continued where they left off after the interval with
Forsyth completing his hat trick with a low shot from short corner.
Thereafter the intensity of the game dropped allowing the students
to come into a game which had been dominated by the visitors up to
that point.
Alfie Kerry pulled a goal back netting a rebound from a set
piece and then in the final minutes German Max Brors converted a
penalty stroke to give the final score a slightly better look from
a home side perspective.
Meanwhile in the Women’s programme, Edinburgh University ran out
comfortable eight goal winners over Capital rivals Grange at
Peffermill.
