Grange have secured the men`s Premiership title while Watsonians women finished on top undefeated

If there were any jitters at Fettes they were not evident as Grange retained the men’s Premiership title and a place in Europe next year with a resounding 7-0 win over fourth placed Uddingston.

That early result pushed Grange four points ahead of challengers Edinburgh University, and so whatever result the Edinburgh students achieved against Western Wildcats at Auchenhowie in a later game they would be unable to overhaul Grange at the top.

And so to the details at Fettes. The title was effectively sealed in the first quarter when David Nairn and Dylan Bean from the spot put the champions two up.  Jamie Green added a third just before the interval with a deflection at a penalty corner.

The procession of goals continued in the second half through Calum Lothian, Nairn again for his own second, Robbie Croll at a penalty corner and a final strike from Bean for a magnificent seven.

Although Grange`s celebrations could now start, the result was not good news for Uddingston whose four place was now under jeopardy depending on the outcome of Hillhead`s tussle with Watsonians.

With their title aspirations crashed after Grange`s earlier victory, the Edinburgh students were nonetheless undaunted and came away with a 2-0 win at Auchenhowie over Western Wildcats.

Uddingston`s worst fears came to fruition when Watsonians beat Hillhead 3-1 to move up to fourth place in the table and on to the European play-offs.  Dan Coultas gave Watsonians the lead at a penalty corner only for Yan Adams to level with a deflection at another set piece, and that was the score at the interval.    Watsonians strengthened their case in the second half with further goals from Duncan Riddell and Scotland under-18 player Owen Hunter at a breakaway.

At the other end of the Premiership Grove Menzieshill secured another season in the top flight quite emphatically with an 8-0 win over Kelburne.  Luke Cranney was the catalyst with four and Findlay Duncan from the spot, Simon Huggon, Ross McPherson and Connor Chapman were also on target.

Meanwhile in Edinburgh ESM find themselves in the relegation play-off after going down 4-0 to neighbours Inverleith.  On target for them was Hamish Norval, Charlie Jack, Cody Adams and Stuart Hatton.

In the women`s Premiership Watsonians, already champions, finished their campaign undefeated after a 5-2 win at GHK.   Katherine Holdgate opened for the champions only for GHK`s Robin Robeson to lift the ball over the keeper following a pass from Maia Macalony for 1-1 at the interval.

However, the contest was won early in the second half with a quick-fire double from Sarah Jamieson followed by a penalty corner conversion from Emily Dark for a 4-1 lead.   An Orla Thomson deflection at a penalty corner pulled the score back to 4-2 but in the end Milly Berndes-Cade added a fifth for Watsonians.

Edinburgh University stamped their authority on second spot with a 5-0 win over Clydesdale Western, there were two goals each for Harriet Platt and Louise Campbell while Harriet Bradley got the other.

In the other top flight contest Wildcats and Grange fought out a 1-1 draw. After a goalless first half Heather Croll gave the Edinburgh side the lead but Alex Stuart replied for the Cats for a share of the points.   Wildcats remain in fourth place but the point puts Grange up to fifth in the table.

Uddingston finished top of the lower split with a 2-1 win over Inverleith, Lexi Macmillan and OIivia Mullen were on target.

St Andrews University were not far behind after a 9-0 win over Gordonians, here there were two goals each for Hannah Coull. Fiona Hawkings and Niamh Burns, the rest came from Maura Holden, Jasmine Mitchell and Julia Chapman.

A hat-trick from Lucy Smith was the foundation of Glasgow University`s 7-2 win over Hillhead while there were two goals each for Ciara Forgie and Dara Devine, and that keeps the students in ninth spot.
