Grange join early league leaders’ at the top

Grange moved level on points with early pace setters Grove
Menzieshill at the top of the Aberdeen Asset Management Men’s
League on the completion of today’s programme following their 3-1
win over PSL Clydesdale at Peffermill and the Dundee team’s 4-0
loss at the hands of reigning champions Glynhill Hotel Kelburne at
Bellahouston.

The Edinburgh club were one goal ahead at the interval after a
shot from a set piece was illegally stopped and Rob Barr netted
from the spot. Clydesdale came back into the game and Fraser Hirst
scored early in the second half to square the match.

Grange responded by re-taking the lead when a diagonal ball from
Duncan Riddell found Stewart Lang who clipped the ball on to Cammie
Fraser to roll the ball into the empty net. The points were sealed
when Gary Cameron took full advantage of a turnover of possession
to run into the circle and slip the ball past the onrushing
keeper.

Colin Clarke’s team now have the opportunity to take sole
possession of top spot when they travel to Aberdeen to face AAM
Gordonians tomorrow(14.00.)

Kelburne ominously brushed aside the challenge of Menzieshill at
Bellahouston considering there were several players missing from
the home team sheet. The defending champions, as always, took the
game to their opposition right from the start and Alan Forsyth took
advantage of good work from Lee Morton to drill the ball home to
open the scoring.

Jonny Christie doubled the advantage before the break with a
sublime finish, Ian Horsfield drilled a ball into the circle from
the left which found Christie making a run to the near post which
he brilliantly deflected high into the roof of the net giving the
keeper no hope whatsoever.

Menzieshill enjoyed their best spell in the opening to the
second half and Gavin Byers forced Mark Fulton into a fine save.
However Kelburne immediately swept up field and Forsyth netted his
second when he deftly lifted the ball over the keeper after good
interplay between the Christie brothers.

Fulton then, again, produced another magnificent save, tipping a
Gavin Tomlinson drag flick onto the post before blocking the
rebound and the resultant counter attack produced a killer fourth
goal credited to debutant Scott Sutherland. Menzieshill’s day was
summed up when Fulton saved a late Tomlinson penalty stroke.

Inverleith shocked Western Wildcats at Auchenhowie running out
5-1 winners at Auchenhowie. The Edinburgh team continue to enjoy
visits to the west coast and were two up by half time after
surviving some early Wildcats’ pressure in the opening ten
minutes.

The Wildcats had no option but to push forward in the second
period leaving gaps which were clinically exploited by the
visitors. Scott McCartney netted the consolation goal for the
deflated home team.

AMN Hillhead eased their way towards the relative safety of a
mid table position with a 3-2 home win over Gordonians. The goals
coming from Alan Meikle, James Prowse and John Reid.

Meanwhile Edinburgh University claimed three precious away
points against Watsonians ahead of tomorrow’s visit of
Kelburne(13.30.) An own goal, Max Brorf (2), Alfie Kerr, Andrew
Campbell were on the score sheet for the visitors.
