Scotland Aspiring Girls 1-0 Wales

Glasgow Green welcomed a well-earned 1-0 victory for Scotland Aspiring Girls in the second of a three match series.

Wales started the game well and applied pressure around the Scotland D but they found the Scotland defence well organised and strong.

The defence gave Scotland a good base to counter and they looked dangerous when they sprung forward down the channels.

It was on one counter when Lexie MacMillan forced a good save from the Welsh keeper with a powerful low shot on the reverse.

At the end of the first quarter Scotland came close again from a penalty corner. Freya Mackay had a shot blocked then MacMillan zipped a low effort just wide of the right post.

At the start of the second quarter Mhairi Low had a really good opportunity for Scotland at the far post but denied by a great diving save.

Olivia Elliott was then denied for Scotland by another tremendous diving save. Elliott’s low effort looked destined for the bottom left corner but the Welsh keeper had other ideas, and launched to the left post to save.

Scotland had the ball in the back of the net early in the second half but it was ruled out for an infringement.

The goal for Scotland would come soon enough and Ailsa Phimister forced the ball home from close range after a good run down the left. 1-0.

Wales nearly equalised from a straight strike at the top of the D but Lucy Brown dived low to save at the bottom left corner.

In the final quarter Wales found themselves up against a MacMillan in full flight, and she was at the heart of everything for Scotland.

Scotland Aspiring Boys 2-3 Wales

Scotland Aspiring Boys lost 3-2 to Wales in a tight and competitive contest in Glasgow.

Wales took an early lead when a penalty corner pinballed into the net to make it 1-0.

It prompted a response and Fraser Allan showed some good skill in the D for Scotland, but Wales managed to poke the ball clear before he could unleash a shot at goal.

The contest was fierce and the game was close, racing from end-to-end.

Sam Hunt almost equalised for Scotland; his drag flick arrowed towards the top left corner but it was well blocked by a defender.

Then Ali Dyer nearly made it 2-0 to Wales but he was crowded out by the Scots defence.

Scotland scored a deserved equaliser before half time and it came through a sensational strike by Jamie Green. Green placed the ball effortlessly off the post and in to make it 1-1.

Early in the second half Wales went 2-1 ahead; a sucker punch for the Scots.

Before long it was 3-1 with a lovely deflected finish at a penalty corner to put some daylight between the team.

Scotland cam fighting back and Zachary Talbot scored a powerful strike through the goalkeeper at a penalty corner to pull it back to 3-2.

The Scots hammered at the Welsh door in the final quarter and earned a great chance for an equaliser when they were awarded a penalty stroke, but the resulting effort thundered off the post.

An equaliser proved elusive but Wales held on for a 3-2 win in Glasgow.

Wales 0-2 Scotland Emerging Girls

A convincing performance by Scotland Emerging Girls saw them clock up a fine 2-0 win in Swansea.

Scotland attacked continuously from the word go but were held at bay by a Welsh long ball game that forced Scotland to recycle the ball before pushing forward.

A terrific goalkeeping performance also held the Scots off, notably a sensational save that denied Scotland the opener after a slick three player exchange.

It took the Scots until the third quarter before they eventually found the net, and it was Cat Nelli who powered into the Welsh D and smashed the ball into the top corner for 1-0.

Nelli was at it again a short time later and struck her, and Scotland’s, second of the contest. A lovely shoulder entry into the circle led to Nelli striking from the top of the D and making it 2-0 with a fine finish.

Wales applied pressure in the final quarter as they went hunting for goals and forced Lucy Harris into four sensational back-to-back saves to maintain Scotland’s clean sheet, and victory in Swansea.

Wales 3-5 Scotland Emerging Boys

A goal-fest in Swansea went Scotland Emerging Boys’ way with a tremendous 5-3 victory.

Scotland got off to a flying start and raced into a two-goal lead, First, Edward May found the net with a lovely penalty corner strike. Then a corner breakdown allowed Scotland to counter, and May picked out Ally Paul from the baseline for a back post finish. 2-0.

The Scots changed tactics in the second quarter as they attempted a new system and the result was a loss of momentum. Wales struck twice to bring the score to level-terms at half time.

In the second half a Welsh counter attack saw them go 3-2 ahead. Scotland had to dig deep.

It took just over a minute for Scotland to score an equaliser and it came through a drag flick by May to make it 3-3.

Scotland went back in front when May bagged his second hat trick in two days from the penalty spot after the Scots were awarded a stroke. 4-3.

Ben Young then found the top corner as Scotland restored their two-goal advantage to go 5-3 ahead, and complete the scoring with Scotland showing great character to win the game after a Wales comeback.
