Huge crowds and sensational action at Senior Schools’ Cup 2022

It was a sensation senior Schools’ Cup final with huge crowds at Peffermill cheering on eight amazing cup finals.

Jordanhill School 0-1 George Heriot’s School

A tremendous Senior Girls’ Cup final ended in a 1-0 victory for George Heriot’s School in front of a packed Peffermill.

It was a nervy opening to the contest but the first chance of the match went to Jordanhill after a swift counter down the right saw the ball slipped into the middle of the circle, but it evaded the attacker and rolled clear.

Jordanhill came close again through a penalty corner routine but Ella Ritchie was denied at the far post but good defending on the post.

George Heriot’s School then began to threaten and some lovely play down the left was eventually crowded out by the Jordanhill defence.

The contest raged from end-to-end as both sides went hunting for the opening goal, but the half ended goalless in a tight contest.

The second half was as competitive as the first and George Heriot’s School created the first real chance of the half, winning a penalty corner.

From the corner George Heriot’s School took the lead with a deflected penalty corner by Anna Clark at the left post to make it 1-0.

Jordanhill very nearly found an equaliser with seven minutes to play but a penalty corner effort was defended on the post to keep them at bay.

In the closing stages Jordanhill kept banging at the door in search of the equaliser but the goal never came and George Heriot’s School lifted the cup.

George Watson’s College 2-1 Fettes College

The Senior Boys’ Cup final served up a classic and it was George Watson’s College who went home with the trophy with a 2-1 victory.

There was an early goal for George Watson’s College in the Senior Boys’ Cup final and the crowd took the roof off Peffermill when Zachary Talbot found the net with a drag flick to put his side 1-0 ahead.

It didn’t take Fettes long to find an equaliser and it came through a tremendous reverse flick at a penalty corner by Xavax Cordero to make it 1-1.

The rest of the half saw the teams go toe-to-toe in a very tight and competitive contest, but neither could gain the upper hand and it was stalemate at half time.

Fettes created a great opportunity early in the second half but the keeper blocked the effort well at the near post.

Then George Watson’s College had a penalty corner strike from the top of the D charged down, looping the ball way over the bar.

George Watson’s College then took the lead with a tremendous strike across the keeper by Henry Porter into the far left corner to make it 2-1.

A short time later Fettes came so close to equalising as they piled in on the George Watson’s goal but nobody could force the ball over the line and the ball was batted clear.

Both sides were all guns blazing for the closing stages. Fettes came agonisingly close with an Edward May shot that fizzed just wide of the bottom left corner.

The final whistle blew and George Watson’s College were the victors in a sensational Senior Boys’ Cup final.

Kilgraston School 1-1 (3-2) Selkirk High School

It took a shootout but Kilgraston School were the victors to win the Aspire Girls’ Cup 3-2 on penalties.

Selkirk enjoyed good possession in the early stages and peppered the Kilgraston circle with passes but the defence held up well.

Then came an excellent save to deny Selkirk the lead; the goalkeeper shot out quickly to block the shot and keep the scores level.

A short time later and a tremendous low save denied Kilgraston a strike.

A tense end to the half ended in stalemate as the teams went in 0-0 at half time.

Into the second half and Selkirk took the lead with a lovely low finish to make it 1-0, Gina MacKenzie with the finish.

Kilgraston struck back through a delightful finish by Flora Allan to equalise; a deflection in front of the keeper into the net from a long pass into the D for 1-1.

The goal spurred Kilgraston on and some good goalkeeping denied them taking the lead shortly after the equaliser; a near post stop kept them at bay.

Alas, there were no more goals and the first game of the day went to running penalties.

The shootout was tense; Kilgraston took the lead with Selkirk striking back. Selkirk were denied after Kilgraston scored, then both sides scored giving Kilgraston a 3-2 lead. Both goalkeepers saved their last two penalties, giving Kilgraston a 3-2 victory to claim the trophy in style.

McLaren High School 0-0 (3-0) Perth Academy

McLaren High School won the Aspire Boys’ Cup in a dramatic shootout victory over Perth Academy.

It was a very tight and tense opening to the contest. The first chance went to McLaren High School when they zipped the ball to the far post but the attacker couldn’t get a stick on the end of it to convert.

The second half saw the game come to life with the action raging from end-to-end.

An excellent solo run by Ethan Donaldson for McLaren, through the middle of the pitch, gave Tim Hadland the chance to shoot, but the keeper was out quickly and blocked with their leg guards.

McLaren began piling on the pressure as the game reached the closing stages but couldn’t find a winner and the match went to penalties.

In the shootout McLaren were clinical and clocked up a sensational 3-0 victory to win the Aspire Boys’ Cup.

Morrison’s Academy 1-0 Marr College

The Senior Girls’ Challenge Plate went to Morrison’s Academy with a 1-0 victory over Marr College at Peffermill.

Morrison’s Academy took an early lead over Marr College with a slick low finish by Eriskay McLellan into the bottom right corner.

Morrison’s quickly went searching for more goals and saw two penalty corners well defended under great pressure; Ailise Milroy looking dangerous around the D.

It was a good start to the second half for Morrison’s; they nearly doubled their lead when an early penalty corner was cleared off the line.

Marr College battled back into the contest and piled on the pressure looking for an equaliser. Morrison’s Academy was resolute, however, and took a great victory and plate home as champions.

Glasgow Academy 3-1 Strathallan

It was a great Senior Girls’ Plate final that saw the Glasgow Academy come out on top with a 3-1 victory.

Glasgow Academy made a great start to the contest and put Strathallan firmly on the back foot.

Nicola Fletcher showed some tremendous skill for Academy, picking the ball from deep and drifting past players as if they weren’t there before fizzing a pass into the circle, but the ball was well defended.

A goal eventually came, and Glasgow Academy took the lead when Ciara Brown forced the ball over the line with three minutes of the first half remaining. 1-0.

There was nearly an early second half strike for Glasgow Academy, it looked a certain goal but a tremendous recovery by the keeper kept the ball out at the post.

Then Academy piled on pressure as the half grew older but Strathallan were resolute and managed to hold them off.

Then Caitlin Spencer doubled Academy’s advantage with a close range finish to make it 2-0.

A third goal came for Glasgow Academy with two minutes to play through a great team goal to make it 3-0. Jenna Hilditch provided the finish after some fantastic interchange play on a counter attack.

Late in the contest Strathallan scored a late consolation goal to pull it back to 3-1. A lovely finish by Maria McKenna at a penalty corner gave them a deserved goal, but it was the Glasgow Academy who were the victors.

Strathallan 4-2 Robert Gordon’s College

Strathallan were victorious in the Senior Boys’ Plate with a great 4-2 victory over Robert Gordon’s College.

Good pressure early doors by Strathallan led to a penalty stroke. The ball was coolly stuck into the bottom left corner by Hamish Norval from the spot to make 1-0 for Strathallan.

Then came an equaliser for Robert Gordon’s College to make it 1-1. Louis Roddy forced it home at the third attempt. We had ourselves a cup final.

The crowd had barely sat back down when the ball hit the net again. Adam Anderson slammed the ball home to make it 2-1 for Strathallan.

The second half was just as competitive as the first with both sides playing excellent hockey.

Robert Gordon’s College came very close to equalising with a deflected effort zipping just wide of the mark.

Strathallan then went 3-1 ahead when they were awarded a penalty stroke and a low Ross Telfer strike from the spot found the net.

Then Robert Gordon’s pulled one back through Lewis Mutch with two minutes to play but Strathallan restored their two-goal lead and went 4-2 ahead through a powerful Hamish Norval penalty corner, struck low into the left corner.

Robert Gordon’s College 1-2 Kelvinside Academy

Kelvinside were victorious in the Senior Girls’ Challenge Cup final with a 2-1 win over Robert Gordon’s College.

The game saw an early goal for Robert Gordon’s College when Anna Warnock was on point to convert and make it 1-0 with two minutes played.

It didn’t take long until the match saw an equaliser for Kelvinside with Skye Stuart finding the goal with a shot across the goalkeeper to make it 1-1.

Emma Williams nearly gave Kelvinside the lead through a well-worked penalty corner but the powerful shot fizzed past the left post.

A lovely penalty corner routine was finished by Skye Stuart to make it 2-1 to Kelvinside; the ball was switched three times in the move before it was slipped low into the net.

Kelvinside made a good start to the second half and applied pressure looking for a third goal.

The team from Glasgow worked the channels well and peppered the Robert Gordon’s circle with passes but couldn’t create a clean chance for another goal.

In the end another goal wasn’t required and Kelvinside won the trophy in style.
