Kelburne fall to Ulhenhorst Mulheim in EHL

Glynhill Hotel Kelburne exited the Euro Hockey League (EHL) at the KO16 stage following a 5-0 defeat at the hands of German side Uhlenhorst Mulheim in Amsterdam earlier today.
The Scottish champions fell behind in the fourth minute when William Marshall was adjudged to have made an infringement inside the circle and resulting penalty corner was dispatched low and hard by Thilo Stralkowski to Mark Fulton’s right hand side to make it 1-0.
However, Kelburne were desperately unlucky not to equalise shortly after when persistent play from Alan Forsyth forced a penalty corner and Mark Ralph’s subsequent drag-flick from the set-piece cannoned back off the left hand upright.
The Scots were left to rue their bad luck only minutes later when man of the match Christopher Ruhr swivelled and dribbled his way past three defenders to sent a low reverse-stick drive past Fulton to make it 2-0 in the 20th minute.
It was 3-0 shortly after when Ruhr carried the ball through midfield towards the edge of the circle and his pinpoint pass found Johannes Schmitz in space and his close range effort found the back of the net in the 24th minute.
With half-time fast approaching, the match was put beyond Kelburne’s reach in the 33rd minute when Ruhr was allowed to skirt along the goal-line from the left hand touchline into the circle and pick his spot past Fulton to make it 4-0.
The second half was a much tighter affair and Kelburne made Bjorn Brinkmann in the Ulhlenhorst goal work following shots on target from Chris Nelson and Alan Forsyth.
However, the Germans managed to grab a fifth goal in the 49th minute when Schmitz was able to work his way around the edge of the circle before crashing a thunderous shot into the roof of the goal.
The match played to a close with the scoreline at 5-0 and the Germans now progress to the quarter-finals to play either Rott-Weiss Koln or Royal Leopold.
