Nottsport Inter-Districts kicks off at Peffermill

The Boys Inter Districts started with a U16 Midland vs East match. It was even game in the first 13 mins with Midland Goal keeper being the busier of the two sides. It took until the 14th minute before East opened the scoring with a brilliantly worked short corner that was drilled into the left hand corner by Jamie Croll. Midland had a chance to get themselves back into the game with a short corner just after the break but it was well defended and East almost broke away to double their lead. Midland tried to get back into the match and were nearly on the score board in the 33rd minute but it took a magnificent save from the East GK to keep the lead. East doubled their lead on the 37th minute through another well worked short corner scored by Charlie Jack. It was another goal this time for Matthew Hughson for East on the 44th minute from another short corner to just about ensure the win for East. Midland did get a conciliation goal right at the death to make the final score 1-3, a well worked open play goal scored by Fraser Allan. Final score finished Midland 1 East 3.

North vs Highland saw the first half started brightly for Highland and in the 6th minute they opened the scoring with an open goal which was well taken by Tristan Hennessey. Highland continued to dominate in the match and doubled their lead on the 20th minute from a penalty corner. Magnus Harkness the scorer of the second. Half time and it was Highland who finished on top 0-2. It didn’t take them long after the break to extend their lead when a penalty stroke was awarded on the 35th minute. Magnus Harkness stepped up and doubled his tally for the day and made it 0-3. Highland had some real chances to extend their lead and if it wasn’t for the crossbar it could have been 4. Highland did eventually get their 4th on the 44th minute. A penalty Corner was well worked and Iain Lynch fired the ball into the back of the net to get Highland’s 4th of the match. The game finished 0-4.

In the West v East match it was a 7 goal thriller in this third match of the U16 Pool match. It was West who started the stronger side and opened the scoring on the 4th minute from Jude Boslem who smartly finished to give West the lead. On the 13th minute it looked like East were through on goal but a fantastic tackle by the West goal scorer denied East the opportunity to get the shot away. It was a pretty even match up until 5 mins before the end of the first half when East really stepped it up and got three goals in the last 5 mins. The first came from open play from Matthew Hughson. This was quickly followed by another impressive fast paced break away from the East boys. Charlie Jack got on the end of that great passage of play to give East the lead on the 23rd minute. Then just before the half time whistle it was another goal from East from a penalty corner, scored by Jamie Croll. After the break, West got one back on the 38th through a well worked PC was finished well by Adam McKenzie to make it 2-3. West tried hard for the equalizer and nearly got it on the 42nd minute but a well defended short corner resulted in East breaking up field and scoring through Joel Davenport to give them the two goal cushion again. East finally killed the game off in the last minute of the game with Charlie Jack taking his tally to 2 for the day. West 2 east 5

North vs Midland was a dominant display from Midland who scored an impressive 5 goals in this match. Goal 1 came just 2 mins into play when Hamish Norval found the back of the net. Midland nearly doubled their lead on the 7th minute but The North GK saved smartly to deny an obvious goal scoring opportunity. North nearly got an equalizer on the 11th minute PC but it was well saved by the Midland keeper to keep their lead. In 19th minute and Midland doubled their lead through a controversial shot that somehow trundled into the bottom corner. Goal was scored by Connor Chapman. A poor pass from the side from North was intercepted in the middle of the park as Fraser Allan scored a cheeky chip over the scrambling North GK for Midlands 3rd on the 23rd minute. After the break, Midland had penalty corners but failed to convert some good opportunity’s. A field goal from Tom Cahalin was well finished to give Midland their 4th of the match on the 40th minute. Just 2 mins later it was 5 through an Ollie Wilson turn and dragged the ball into the back of the net. The games finished 0-5.

It took just 6 mins before West opened the scoring through a great sliding pass to the back post where it was touched in by Jamie Green who had only just been subbed on that minute against Highland. Highland GK stood strong and had some impressive saves but on the stroke of half time West doubled their lead. Another great save from the Highland GK and the second attempt was fired home by Jude Boslem. Straight from the restart Highland got one back with a magnificent Alistair Douglas reverse stick finish who swept it into the bottom corner-1-2. On the 40th minute West got their 2 goal cushion back from a second phase block off of a PC when Euan Menzies Reverse the ball into the net 1-3. In the 44th min Ruaridth Callaghan made it 1-4 after just missing a 1v1 he got himself into a favorable position to tap it in at the back post. Final score 1-4

In the Under 18 competition West v East saw a feisty and competitive encounter between the two districts which made an enjoyable match for the spectators. East took the lead on the 7th min from open play, slotted home by Jacob Tweedie. Both teams had chances in the first half but it remained 0-1 at the break. Into the second half and it took West just 5 mins before they got their equalizer. Another open play goal from Ewan Cameron to make the score level. Just three minutes later and West took the lead through a short corner and it was a strike from Struan Walker to make the score 2-1. A close game that had chance’s on both sides but West held on to win 2-1.

A dominant first half from Midland put them in a strong position coming in at the break against North. Early pressure resulted in several Penalty corners even one in the first minute. Jamie Golden showed his Penalty corner qualities scoring three in the first half. The first came on the 8th minute after a quick succession of PC with one prior to the scoring being cleared off the line by a North defender, Jamie Golden made no mistake when he fired the ball into the net to make it 0-1 to Midland. It took just 3 mins before he doubled not only Midland score but his own personal tally for the day with another rifled shot hitting the roof of the net. It was equal possession wise for the remainder of the half but still Midland looked the more threatening when moving into that final third. On the 23rd minute they scored again and once again it was a Jamie Golden with a Penalty Corner routine that punished North again to make it 0-3 going into the break. After the break Jamie Golden had another few opportunities from Penalty corners and on the 33rd minute it was his 4th of the match from another drag flick. There was drama at the end when a sliding tackle saw Lucas Findlay yellow carded for a sliding tackle and a penalty corner awarded in the last few minutes of the match. Up stepped Jamie Golden once again with another fantastic flick to make it 5 for Midland. Game finished 0-5 and Jamie Golden with an impressive 5 goals for the match.

In Highland vs West it was a very strong performance from West in game three in the U18 pool match. Although it took them until the 14th minute before the eventually got themselves on the score sheet. Andrew McAllister with the opening goal from open play started the impressive scoring to come. 4 mins later and it was 2 for West through a well worked penalty corner which was finished by Struan Walker. Just minutes later and it was a third for West from another impressive open play passage of play resulting in Fraser Moran firing home. Just before half time West added another to their tally from open play it was Matt O’Toole who got the finish away. Half time and it was Highland 0 – West 4. 8 mins after the break a penalty corner gave Andrew Lochrin to get himself on the score sheet and extended West score to 5. They weren’t done yet, just 2 mins late it was 6 to West when Euan Cowan was at the end of a well worked passage of play. Finn Haliday got in on the scoring action on the 40th minute after he also finished off some great team play. The 8th came in the final minute of play and it came from Euan Cowan which was his second of the day and finished the match off 0-8.

An early goal for Midland opened the scoring in the first minute through an open play strike from Alex Wilson against East. In 19th minute it was another for Midland this time from a PC strike by Jamie Golden who had 6 goals for the day. Just before half time East pulled one back from open play goal Euan Burgees found the net to make the score 1-2 at half time. It was a pretty uneventful second half apart from a 10 minute yellow for a sliding tackle by Livio Belotti. This made it very difficult for East to try and get that equalizer, in the end the game finished 1-2.

Highland vs North ended the day for the U18s a goal for Highland in the 12th minute and then a second to double their lead saw the game finished 2-0 from a PC this time from the captain Iain McFadden.

The second day of the boys Inter Districts take place at Peffermill on Sunday morning.
