Schools Cups reach quarter/semi-final stages
Since the draw was made in August, over 1,500 young hockey players from 95 teams have competed in this season’s Scottish Schools Cups. Nearly 100 matches have now been played and we’ve had drama and excitement aplenty!
In the Senior Girls’ Cup, High School of Glasgow have booked their place in the semi-finals after two wins on penalty flicks, against Heriot’s and St Columba’s, in the previous rounds. They’ll play either Strathallan or Kilgraston, who edged out Trinity Academy on penalties. In the other semi-final, holders Dollar Academy will play the winners of the Edinburgh derby between St George’s and Mary Erskine’s.
The Junior (S3) Girls’ Cup draw has thrown up some cracking quarter final ties: Glasgow Academy host Mary Erskine’s; George Watson’s College meet George Heriot’s School; St Columba’s School travel to play St George’s School; and The High School of Dundee’s win on penalties against Fettes has earned them a home tie v Strathallan.
The semi-finals are already decided in the Senior Boys’ competition. George Watson’s College will host Stewart’s Melville; and Edinburgh Academy’s 5-4 win at Hutchesons’ earned them a trip to Musselburgh to play Loretto. And the Junior Boys’ competition has equally fascinating semi-finals, with Hutchesons’ hosting Fettes College; and Strathallan playing Edinburgh Academy.
There are also Plate and Bowl competitions for teams who were knocked out in the first two rounds of the Cups. All these competitions have now reached the quarter-final or semi-final stages.

Results from the Aspire Cup qualifying tournament were published on 8 November. Since then, Grove Academy have booked their place in the Boys’ final after beating High School of Glasgow.
Best of luck to all teams as they bid for places at the finals days on Friday 6 March (Juniors) or 13 March (Seniors).
