Scotland Aspiring Girls 1-0 Wales

Scotland Aspiring Girls completed a clean sweep with a 1-0 win over Wales at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre.

It was a great start for Scotland. In the early stages Olivia Elliott made an excellent run down the right channel but the final pass was cut out.

Next Hannah Young was denied by an excellent close range save as the Scots banged at the Wales door.

A powerful penalty corner effort by Lexie MacMillan fizzed just wide of the mark before Young was denied by an exceptional save to keep the scores even at the end of the first quarter.

Scotland came close after the restart when Rebecca Gordon’s near post deflection landed the wrong side of the post.

Young came close yet again with a shot on the reverse but the effort zipped just over the bar.

The winning goal came just before half time. Kiera Foster was sent through running one-on-one with the goalkeeper and she lifted the ball over the advancing goalkeeper to make it 1-0.

The second half was comfortable for Scotland. The best chance fell to Wales when they smashed a shot against the upright, but Scotland saw the game out comfortably to claim another excellent win.

Scotland Aspiring Boys 4-3 Wales

Scotland Aspiring Boys beat Wales 4-3 in a fantastic series finale at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre.

It was end-to-end from the first whistle with the tempo very quick.

Wales had the first attempt on goal and prompted a solid diving save at the bottom left corner from a penalty corner.

Xavax Cordero had a good run down the right but the Welsh goalkeeper flew out quickly to block the danger.

The opening goal came at the end of the first quarter and it was Scotland who scored it. Hugh Middleton slammed the ball into the roof of the net from a tight angle to make it 1-0.

Ollie Wilson doubled Scotland’s advantage early in the second quarter. Cordero weaved an impressive run down the right, prompting a save, but Wilson scooped the rebound into the net for 2-0.

Cordero’s impressive first half performance was rewarded by a goal right before half time. A sensational long pass into the circle found Cordero in space and he absolutely buried the ball into the bottom left corner for 3-0.

A fourth goal arrived in the third quarter and it was a Sam Hunt drag flick into the top right corner that put Scotland on easy street. Or so they thought.

The final quarter saw a spirited comeback from the Welsh with three goals in the final quarter. Scotland saw the game out and claimed an excellent victory to round off the series.

Wales 1-2 Scotland Emerging Girls

A 2-1 victory for Scotland Emerging Girls in Swansea gave them a series victory in the three-match test series with Wales.

Wales came out firing in this contest and had an excellent opening quarter.

However, it was Scotland who found the net and took the lead with a beautiful goal. A sweet pass found Ailise Milroy in the Wales half, and Milroy did the rest, driving into the D before finishing with a lovely backhand shot into the bottom corner.

In the second quarter Scotland went 2-0 ahead when Cat Nelli finished off a slick penalty corner routine. It was fired into the D for a deflection that saw the ball hit the roof of the net for 2-0.

Throughout the contest Scotland enjoyed a number of good circle opportunities but couldn’t add to their tally, and Wales struck one back in the third.

Tallulah McMorris was exceptional and did a tremendous job of connecting the backline with the forward line in a tireless performance.

Darcy Littlefield also put in a tireless and adaptable performance and was tremendous in breaking down the Welsh press.

The final quarter from Scotland was a dominant performance; the press was fantastic and the Scottish intensity was impressive, but there would be no further goals and Scotland settled for an impressive 2-1 win.
