Scotland Grand Masters Update

Scotland Grand Masters Draw with the Auld Enemy in Kuala Lumpur

—————————————————————
In a match interrupted by a torrential downpour on Monday 26 October, Scotland Grand Masters opened their account against England with a 1-1 draw.

Scotland took the game to England and deservedly took the lead after Derek Johnstone’s shot was saved by the English keeper, only to rebound to Bernie Morrison who unselfishly slipped the ball to Johnstone who flicked the ball into the corner of the net.

England soon restored parity with a fierce hit from a set piece and took command for the remainder of the time before the heavens opened.

After a 90 minute delay, the match restarted and the pattern changed, with Scotland looking increasingly dangerous on the break, and forcing a series of short corners, from one of which the English keeper made an outstanding save from a Peter Gordon shot.

At the other end, the Scottish defence stood firm against English attacks and keeper Chris Kalman always looked capable of dealing with anything England could throw at him.

This was arguably Scotland’s most difficult fixture and they go into their match against Australian side Southern Cross B on Tuesday 26 October with confidence.

Scotland Grand Masters Hit Six in Pacific Rim Tournament

Scotland started with real purpose on Tuesday 27 October against Southern Cross B, an Australian select with Peter Gordon bursting through from midfield and scoring twice within the first five minutes and Derek Johnstone putting the Scots three up soon after.

Scotland sat back a little but made it four when Alistair Ogilvie dived in a the far post to net from a cross by Glenn Paton.

Southern Cross got back into the game but Chris Kalman in the Scottish goal was in no mood to give away a goal. Glenn Paton made it five before half time with a forehand smash into the Australian net that Andy Murray would have been proud of.

As often happens when one team is dominant, the expected avalanche of goals did not materialise in the second half, a single counter by Bernie Morrison being all that Scotland could muster.

Next up on Wednesday 28 October is Egypt.
