Scotland Men vying for promotion at EuroHockey Nations Championship II in Ukraine
Scotland Men will compete at their final, and most important,
international tournament of the summer next week, when they travel
to Vinnitsa in Ukraine for the EuroHockey Nations Championship II
from 8-14 August.
The Scots have been drawn in Pool B of the competition alongside
the hosts Ukraine, Austria and Belarus. In Pool A, Czech Republic,
Poland, Sweden and Wales make up the group of eight teams competing
for promotion to the European Championship in 2013.
Russell Garcia has the luxury of naming his strongest group of
players available; Great Britain internationals Niall Stott and
Stephen Dick make a return to the squad from that which competed at
the FIH Champions Challenge II in Lille last month, whilst Glynhill
Hotel Kelburne’s Chris Nelson comes back into the fold to add to
his ninety-four international caps for his country. Club team-mate
Michael Christie has withdrawn from the squad for personal reasons.
Veteran Graham Moodie will continue to captain the side.
The target for the Scottish national side will be to challenge for
promotion to the top division of the EuroHockey Nations
Championship, where they would test their mettle against the likes
of England, Germany and Holland at the summit of European
hockey.
Scotland will look to finish in the top two pool places in order to
advance to next Saturday’s semi-finals, where the competition
becomes a knock-out format and promotion places will be up for
grabs.
