Scotland U18s in international action

Scotland’s U18 hockey squads are in action this weekend, with
both teams facing a number of international matches on 3-5
June.

Scotland U18 Women travel to Lille, France where they will take
part in a three nations tournament against hosts France and
Germany, whilst a Scotland U18 Men’s development squad will make
the short journey to Jordanstown, Northern Ireland for three
matches against an Ulster select.

For the women, the three nations tournament will provide Colin
Clarke’s squad with valuable opportunities to pit his side against
quality international opposition as they continue to look forward
to the trip to Holland in July to compete at the EuroHockey U18
Championship in Utrecht.  Both France and Germany will also be
competing in the Championship so they will be a useful barometer by
which Clarke can measure the progress of his squad.

Meanwhile, Bill Robson and Stephen Foster are preparing an
experimental Scottish U18 team for the matches against Ulster this
weekend, with a number of players from a development squad selected
to join up with a number of the current U18 internationals.

“The matches against Ulster will give some of the boys in the
development squad an opportunity to experience hockey at a higher
level and advance their development as players. Most of them will
still compete at U18 level next season again so it’s a great
exposure for them”, said Robson.

For a number of players in the squad, the matches against Ulster
will also provide the team with useful game-time and experience in
advance of travelling to Cernusco, Italy in July for the EuroHockey
U18 Championship II, as Robson suggests,

“The current U18 internationals playing this weekend will also
get valuable time on the pitch ahead of the European competition in
July and with final selection not far off, it’s their time to press
for inclusion in the squad going to Italy.”
