Scotland women’s squad to play Ireland in Belfast

The Scotland women’s squad has been announced by Chris Duncan to play test matches against Ireland in Belfast this weekend.

The Scots will face an Ireland Development squad on Saturday at 18:00 before facing the Ireland senior squad on Sunday at 17:00 and Monday at 16:00.

Lunjika Nyirenda steps up to join the senior squad from Scotland U21 women and will get a first taste of senior international hockey in the series. Amber Murray also joins the squad from the U21s with Sophie Hinds to play for Scotland for the first timer, and Georgia Jones will also feature for more experience in a Scotland shirt.

Sarah Jamieson will captain the squad with Eve Pearson as vice-captain.

Chris Duncan said, “Following a full on summer and some really promising performance developments, it is exciting to get back to competitive match play as we begin our preparations for next year’s European A Division.

“We were fortunate to display some really progressive performances in our build up to and during the Commonwealth Games and European Qualifiers, and these games give us a chance to reset and begin work on some identified development needs in our performances.

“We have selected a really exciting, but developmental group, and are looking forward to seeing some new players experience the senior international environment for the first time, along with testing out some more experienced players in different positions as we look to develop further strength in our whole squad.

“We have been really impressed with the application of the players in the build up to this series, and it provides an opportunity for some to represent Scotland for the first time, and others to play against a top 15 side for the first time.”
