Scottish Cup & Plate Semi-Finals round-up

Glasgow National Hockey Centre played host to a dramatic day of hockey in the Men’s and Women’s Scottish Cup & Plate semi-finals today.

Grange will have the chance to clinch back-to-back Scottish Cup successes after a 4-1 win over Grove Menzieshill in the Men’s Scottish Cup semi-final.

Grove Menzieshill had taken a 24th minute lead through Gavin Byers which they took into half-time.

However, Michael Fenelon put Grange back on level terms in the 40th minute, before two penalty corners from Rob Barr put the Stags 3-1 up.

John McCluskey completed the scoring with the fourth goal in the 58th minute.

Edinburgh University reached the Men’s final after a narrow 1-0 win over AAM Gordonians in the second of the Men’s Scottish Cup semi-finals.

Gordon Amour was the match winner, striking a penalty corner low into the goal to take the students to the final.

Grove Menzieshill upset Edinburgh University’s hopes of claiming a league and cup double with a 3-2 win in the Women’s Scottish Cup semi-final.

Captain Camilla Lyttle gave the university side a 1-0 advantage from a penalty corner in the 14th minute before Louise Carroll equalised for Grove Menzieshill three minutes before half-time.

The Taysiders went 2-1 up in the 46th minute, Ali Bell getting on the scoresheet from open play.

Heather Lang pulled the two sides level at 2-2 in the 50th minute.

A counter-attack from Grove Menzieshill in the 65th minute led to the winning goal, Carroll playing a long pass from inside her own half, Bell picking up on the left to cross to the back post where Danielle Johnston’s out-stretched dive turned the ball into the net.

In the second Women’s Scottish Cup semi-final, Milne Craig Clydesdale Western eased into the final with a 5-0 win over Erskine Stewart’s Melville FP.

Fiona Bruce’s penalty corner strike in the 13th minute broke the deadlock before Nicki Skrastin made it 2-0 shortly before half-time.

Millie Brown put Clydesdale Western out of sight at 3-0 four minutes after the interval after scoring from a penalty corner set piece.

Jennifer Eadie and Gillian Green wrapped up the win for the Titwood outfit, Eadie scoring from a penalty corner in the 48th minute before Gilman’s goal in the 60th minute made it 5-0.

Falkirk GHG won a dramatic Men’s Scottish Plate semi-final against Aberdeen Grammar School FP, surviving a comeback by the Aberdonians who were 3-0 down at one stage, with a 4-3 victory.

Cameron Scott gave Falkirk the lead in the 29th minute from a penalty corner, before Gordon Yeudall and Scott added a further two goals either side of half-time to leave Falkirk cruising at 3-0.

However, goals from Alex Morrison, John Dargie and Andy Macallan dramatically pulled the former pupils back into the contest at 3-3.

Nevertheless, Liam Watt ensured Falkirk’s progress to the final with a 64th minute goal.

In the second Men’s Scottish Plate semi-final, Clydesdale swept Granite City Wanderers aside with a 6-1 success.

First half goals from Andrew Allan, Michael McKenzie and James Nairn put the Titwood outfit 3-0 up at the break.

Second half strikes from Scott Lindsay, Michael Cockburn, and Fraser Hirst left Clydesdale with a 6-0 lead ten minutes from full-time, only for Alan Thom to pull one back for Granite City Wanderers a minute from time.

Dundee Wanderers cruised into the Women’s Scottish Plate Final courtesy of a 5-0 win over Grange EL.

Ashley Bunce opened the scoring midway through the first half with a penalty corner to give the Taysiders a 1-0 lead they kept until half-time.

Rebecca Murray doubled Wanderers’ advantage in the 48th minute, before Heather Elder made it 3-0 four minuted later.

Scotland international Vikki Bunce notched the fourth for Wanderers before Elder grabbed her second goal of the match two minutes from time to finish off the scoring at 5-0.

Edinburgh University III made light work of their Women’s Scottish Plate semi-final against Stirling Wanderers, running out comfortable 5-0 winners.

Hannah Giebus scored a quick-fire double from penalty corners in the 25th and 28th minutes to give the students a 2-0 lead.

Alice MacArthur made it 3-0 from open play in the 29th minute to give University a 3-0 advantage at half-time.

Grace Seeley notched the fourth goal in the 56th minute before MacArthur rounded off the scoring two minutes from time with a fifth goal.
