Scottish youngsters fly out to Germany for Four Nations
Scotland U16 Girls travel to Mannheim in Germany this
week for a challenging Four Nations tournament against three of
Europe’s top international teams and talented youth
internationals.
Head Coach Elaine Brierley has named eighteen players in the
squad for the tournament running from 11-13 June, when the Scots
will face hosts Germany, Belgium and Holland over three competition
days.
Speaking to the Scotsman’s Gary Heatly earlier this week,
Brierley said, “I have been pleased with the way the squad has
grown in the last few months. It is always difficult to come out of
your school and club teams to learn new systems on the
international stage, but they have responded to it well.
“The warm-up matches have been crucial to us as it has allowed
us to try a number of things and combinations and I feel the squad
picked is one that can go to Germany and give a good account of
themselves.
“We are under no illusions though. These will be three very
tough tests and, with them coming in a three-day spell, the girls
will have to work extremely hard to compete against the calibre of
players they will likely be facing.”
Scotland will need to hit the ground running with Holland their
first match on Saturday morning, before they face the Germans on
Sunday, and Belgium on Monday.
