Uddingston sign off with win in Athens

Uddingston played their last game against tournament hosts and Greek champions, Ethnikos this afternoon. Uddingston looking for their first win took the game to the Greeks and had most of the early possession. Chances fell to Jonjo Lavin, Martyn Connor and Martin McIntosh but all three failed to convert. The match remained goalless a half time.
Uddingston continued to push on from the start of the second half and were rewarded within two minutes when Brian Stirling intercepted a loose ball to release David Goodfellow who’s cross was converted at the front post by Martin McIntosh with a tap in.
The home side looked for the equaliser but a break away from Uddingston found Martyn Connor on the baseline who drove in to the D and crossed for Jonjo Lavin to beat the home keeper.
Ethnikos pulled one back with an excellent goal from an acute angle but the visiting side held on for the victory.
Captain Nairn Scobie commented after the game ” It was great to finish on a high and it’s been a fantastic weekend for the development of the team. We would like to thank Ethnikos for hosting the tournament and to all Teams who took part and provided fantastic opposition”.

Uddingston concluded their trip to Athens for an invitational tournament with a 2-1 win over hosts Ethnikos this afternoon.

Looking for their first win of the tournament, they took the game to the Greek side and had most of the early possession. Chances fell to Jonjo Lavin, Martyn Connor and Martin McIntosh throughout the first half but all three failed to convert, leaving the match still goalless at half-time.

Uddingston continued to push on from the start of the second half and were rewarded within two minutes of the re-start when Brian Stirling intercepted a loose ball to release David Goodfellow whose cross was converted at the front post by a Martin McIntosh tap in.

The home side pressed forward in search of an equaliser but a breakaway from the Scots found Connor on the baseline and he drove into the cirlcle to cross for Lavin, who beat the home keeper to double the advantage at 2-0.

Ethnikos pulled one back with an excellent goal from an acute angle but the visiting side held on for the victory.
