Weekend Preview: Men’s National Indoor League

National Indoor League Division 1
The National Indoor League Division 1 title will go right down to the wire this Saturday when league leaders Inverleith and defending champions Grove Menzieshill battle it out for the championship at Bell’s Sport Centre, Perth.
The Dundonians will be confident of beating city rivals Dundee Wanderers and Glynhill Hotel Kelburne in their first two matches, while Inverleith should easily beat bottom side Harris Academy FP in their opening game.
However, the Edinburgh side face a tricky second match against fourth place Grange, the only side to have taken any points from the Purple Robes this season following a 2-2 draw. Grove Menzieshill will be hoping for a similar outcome as they look to overhaul Inverleith’s one point advantage.
Nevertheless, should the matches go to form and both sides record two wins, there is the mouth-watering prospect of a ‘winner-takes-all’ title shoot-out between the top two in the final match of the session at 6.15pm.
Meanwhile, both Grange and Glynhill Hotel Kelburne have the opportunity to finish in the division top 4 and qualify for the European play-offs at the Indoor Gala Day on Saturday 9 February. Dundee Wanderers also have an outside chance though.
At the foot of the division, Harris Academy FP are already resigned to life in Division 2 next season and Western Wildcats need only a point from one of their matches, either Dundee Wanderers or Glynhill Hotel Kelburne, to relegate PSL Team Sport Clydesdale from the top league.
Should the Wildcats slip up in both games, the Titwood outfit would still need to score a bucket-load of goals and claim maximum points against both Grange and Harris Academy FP to complete a minor mathematical miracle and avoid the drop.
National Indoor League Division 3
Watsonians remain unbeaten at the top of Division 3 and can clinch one of the promotion spots at the weekend if they overcome Quasar and Granite City Wanderers on Saturday.
Third place FMGM Monarchs will need to get back to winning ways if they are to stay in contention for promotion. The Taysiders have three matches, including encounters against Quasar, Kelburne II and Dundee Wanderers II. Promotion rivals McWhinney Uddingston also face the Paisley side and Wanderers in their two matches.
Meanwhile, Granite City Wanderers and Dundee Wanderers II, who play each other in a vital relegation battle, will also need to record positive outcomes in their other matches if they are to have any hope of catching Olympic Garscadden and avoiding the drop. However, the Glasgow side can move away from the bottom two and safety if they can take points from Kelburne II and Quasar.
National Indoor League Central Division
On Sunday, leaders Edinburgh University can clinch the Central Division title and a place in the promotion play-offs if they can register positive results against third place PSL Team Sport Clydesdale II and CALA Edinburgh II.
However, both Glasgow University and PSL Team Sport Clydesdale are in with a shout having played a game less than the Edinburgh students. They play each other in a must win clash in the final fixture of the day’s session.
In their opening two matches, Glasgow University play CALA Edinburgh II and Waverley Inveresk Trinity, whilst the Titwood side play the league leaders and East Kilbride.
At the foot of the table, CALA Edinburgh II and Waverley Inveresk Trinity will both be determined to ensure they don’t finish bottom of the pile.
National Indoor League Midland & North Division
In the Midland & North Division, Perthshire could open up an eight point lead on second place Aberdeen GSFP if they can take maximum points from their games against AAM Gordonians II and Dundee Wanderers III.
The former pupils are not in action on Saturday and given the leaders’ 100% win record so far, the development of such a points gap could prove insurmountable.
Elsewhere, AAM Gordonians II could move up to third if they can take anything from the Perthshire match and their other fixtures against Harris Academy FP II and Granite City Wanderers II.
At the bottom, Dundee Wanderers III could move off the bottom of the table with wins over Harris Academy FP II and Granite City Wanderers II too.

We preview the Men’s National Indoor Leagues this weekend, with a mouth-watering Division 1 title decider between Inverleith and Grove Menzieshill in the offing.
