Western face crucial test on Tayside.

Milne Craig Western face the tricky prospect of a visit to a VWS
Dundee Wanderers side going through an uncharacteristic poor run of
results with confidence appearing to have been affected in the
final round of matches before the break in the Women’s league
programme.

Western won the first game 3-2 but as Neil Menzies was quick to
point out “We dominated the vast majority of the game and perhaps
should have won by a bigger margin. The fact we didn’t illustrates
the goal scoring threat they have given the chance.” However the
loss of Heather Elder to injury is a further blow to Wanderers at
this time.

The Titwood club’s performances have improved steadily this
season and they will be looking to continue in the same vein and
maintain concentration throughout the entire game. Menzies view is
that “Grove are still clear favourites but we are capable of taking
points off them in a one off game as are Edinburgh University,
Giffnock and Wanderers.”

However three points are crucial for Western if they are to
retain second place going into the break which would leave them in
a position to still mount a challenge to Grove and capitalise on
any possible slip ups from the champions when league business
resumes next February.

However Giffnock themselves will be looking to keep the pressure
on Western when they meet the bottom side Grange EL still looking
for their first win of the season. Rhona Simpson’s team narrowly
edged out the visitors in their earlier meeting thanks to a Susie
Blake goal but Giffnock at home are an entirely different
proposition.

Another eye catching game is the meeting of Edinburgh University
and Glynhill Hotel Kelburne sitting in 5th and 6th place
respectively. Kelburne have enjoyed a good run of results of late
with Stacy Ramsay’s side discovering the cutting edge missing at
the beginning of the season.

University’s player/coach Sam Judge commented “I was
disappointed with our defeat against Kelburne earlier in the season
and looking for a better performance this time round.”  The
students have themselves been in good scoring form recently which
should ensure an entertaining game is on the cards.

Judge’s ended by saying “I am really pleased so far. The girls
have applied themselves very well and are gaining confidence. There
is still a lot of work to be done during the winter shut down with
regard to fitness and hopefully we can continue to put in more good
performances  on the resumption.”

(Peffermill-14.45)

Grove Menzieshill were due to play their first home game of the
season at DISC, having played the entire first half of the season
“on the road”, but suffer the same fate as their male
counterparts.  However a change of venue has been arranged
with Strathallan School coming to their assistance.

GHK would have looked through the fixtures at the start of the
season to target where possible points could be gathered but this
would not be a game identified if being realistic. GHK showed a lot
of courage last week against Western and there is potential within
this young squad. However Grove will be looking to continue their
relentless march towards another title.

Finally Western Wildcats will be looking to close the existing
five point difference between themselves and visitors CALA
Edinburgh sitting seventh in the table with ten points. However
CALA are still on the fringes of the relegation zone and therefore
keen to ensure clear water remains going into the winter break.
